Yes, yes, yes, I've gone off on another fanboy obsession -- that's how I am. The hype machine is working, with the movie and the merch all being pimped out all over the place, I'm right there wondering how far they could take this...

In all seriousness, I doubt they could get a game like this going. The Indy license has been marketed around a LOT this year -- toys, games, posters, puzzles, breakfast cereals, expect to be SICK of it by next year.

But a game requires a little longevity, and even if they dedicated a whole set to each movie (unlikely, since they've been unwilling to do that with SW, and it seems a good way to ensure lower sales by only reaching fans of that particular film) they'd still only get four sets. Plus, unlike other properties, this is a franchise with essentially one "hero" and that makes every other character far less interesting.

Still, that said, I still wonder if anyone here would find a "30's pulp adventure" game with licensed characters appealing at all?

I'd envision something like this:

Set 1:

Starter with 8 figures: Indy, Marion, Short Round, Henry Jones Sr., Belloq, and three generic villains
Boosters: 40 figures total, including 3 versions of Indy, two versions of Belloq, and assorted Nazis, thugs, native warriors, and hired assassins. 25 of the figures would be from Raiders, 10 would be from Grail, and 5 from Temple of Doom.

Set 2: Jungle Adventure!

40 figures total: 4 versions of Indy, a few of Short Round, a few of Indy's sidekick who dies in the opening sequence of Doom, Mola Ram, a bunch of other Thugees, and lots and lots of warriors to fight

Set 3: Crystal Skull

40 figures total: The obligatory movie tie-in. Whatever works with the film.

Again, the emphasis on Indy makes it a BIT tricky -- no other game out there has such a clear "everyone only really wants one character" issue. But Indy would have lots of friends -- Sallah, Short Round, Marion, etc.

And if the game wanted to make itself really unique and distinctive, and not just a generic "D&D minis with a different face" game, they could include characters like Willie Scott and Malcolm Brody and others who would be totally in over their heads, who could occasionally help Indy but just as often accidentally thwart him, or need rescuing. Think of the opening fight in Temple of Doom -- instead of a siege involving expert warriors battling it out, it would be a mad scramble, with some characters fighting, others trying to grab treasure, others just trying to get away, and in general people falling all over each other.

It would definitely require a little creativity to work out a game like this, but if it DID work, I don't know, I just can't help thinking that it could be a really distinctive, unique gaming experience. There does seem to be an actual marketplace gap here....

Maybe make a few box " encounter sets " with some cool scale terrain/props. I'd probably get geeky with it too. We could definitely use our DF stuff with a game like that. Talk about made to order terrain for that game!!!! Not soooo much the Sci fi but maybe if you wanted to do something like a Wild Wild West tech thing with it.
