My dwarven Tide of Iron is very cinematic. Most of the “powers” are very cinematic. At level one we had a ranger hit two kobolds with two arrows for a total of 44 damage. The game isnt exactly moving faster than third but people are still figuring things out. The reduction of rolls changed to decisions about powers and positioning. Wizards and Pallys have lots of abilities at level one. Might be confusing for brand new players.

It seems that the limiters for a characters day are healing surge limits and per day abilities which are pretty powerful. It would seem an adventurer day equals one play session.

The monster manual has five hundred monsters in it and, if this module is any sign, they’re all kobolds

Healing surge is a per day ability that let’s characters heal themselves as a standard action. Action points. Characters start with one and gain one every two battles. They are used to add a standard action to a turn. There are no full round actions

E-adventures online adventures with tiles and minis. Lots of stuff…how much… 24 hour pass to play for players who do not subscribe. Samples and trials available. Online character sheet. Editable PDF for free. 2d tile mapper available for free. Price…14.95 monthly, 12.95 six months, 9.95 yearly

Andy Collins Phb eight races and eight classes. Templates for monsters such as liches and fire scions. 500 monsters in the monster manual. Tome of treasures. September. Hundreds of items. Meant for both players and dms. Martial Power. October. For fighters rangers rogues and warlords. Draconomicon. November. Three new chromatic dragons. Manual of the planes. December.

Pics of new minis and Character sheets as well here:

How did the saves work? I downloaded the 2 page PDF and it mentions saves are a D20 roll. 11-20 saved 1-10 no saved. With modifiers in favor of the PC. I hope that a 25th Mage can cast charm on a 1st level character without the character having a 50% chance to save. If someone knows more details please post here.

Not sure....

But according to one of the character sheets pictured, a 1st level dwarven fighter has 33 hp and can heal himself for 104 hp per day!!!

Wow !! That's better regeneration than a troll !!!!

I get your "video game" analogy now. I wonder if we'll be able to go to a save point before a tough combat and reload if we get stomped :D

I'm still neutral as far as 4e goes. I'll wait and see how it develops. I had been away from D&D for so long and I was just getting back into it and bought a bunch of the books over the last year. It just burns me that I may have to do that again so soon (depending on how 4th e develops, of course).

Keep in mind that the creatures do a lot more damage. I was looking at a Kobold that someone emailed me who had some martial power and he could do 28 pts of damage in one hit. So the 104 per day might be needed in just a couple of encounters. The higher numbers are ok for me if and only if they seperate damage done by a knife, dagger, sword, power, magic item accordingly.

I believe saves perform a different function than they did in prior editions. Magical attacks/poisons/stuns/ect. must roll and succeed vs. a defense and if successful they do their primary effect. If that attack carries with it a persistent condition (damage per round/slow effect/ect.) the character in question tries to "save" vs the condition every round or so to get rid of the condition. This is what I have gathered, but I may be wrong ;).

Regarding the healing,

It is a lot of healing, BUT, you can only do the self-healing once per encounter.

Here is quite a bit of crunchy stuff on game play
