I need coffins! Please help me. 6 Years, 9 Months ago
Hey guys! Anyone have any ideas about where I can get some 25mm or 28mm coffins? I really would prefer some that are plastic or resin and not metal. I like the HA graveyard set molds(which include a coffin mold), but I cannot cast HA, because I cannot recieve the chemicals in Japan. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanx!

You can still cast them using Plaster of Paris, but they would be very fragile.

Coffins by themselves are tricky. You are more likely to find one or two in a larger graveyard or crypt set.

Take a look at the Boot Hill set to see what I mean.

I have a couple of suggestions.

Try dental plaster, (if it is available and usable in the molds).

or, try searching for (coffin) accessories from the Halloween diarama displays that they often sell in the craft stores.

The stores themselves probably wouldn't have any right now, but I believe they can be found "out-of-season" online.

Good Luck.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! After I posted the thread, I also found the JR miniatures coffins that Monte pointed out on the Warweb site. I think I will order several lots of those since they come in sets of 4. Thanks again!

I guess it's the easiest way to buy them - and you already found a supplier.

In regard to the HA mold and plaster - the coffin in one of the few pieces which works perfectly well in the graveyard mold using some high quality plaster (I wouldn't even start with plaster of Paris on this one).

So if you are using a lot of HA stuff - just have this mold ready and with every cast use up a few grams extra to cast some coffins while doing other stuff.

If you are only interested in coffins it's not worth the effort - as you only get a single one each time from the mold.

My own 2p worth of comment. This reminds me - I should put up some photos of coffins cast using the mold to the HA pages. I have several different looking ones from the same mold - due to different methods of doing them.

You could say - flawed methods - but here is what I have

1) standard perfect resin coffin
2) plaster coffin with an aged look to the wood grain
3) resin coffin which looks swollen / having been in water for a long time
4) resin coffin with hole in top - like someone breaking free

1) is normal use of the mold. 2) happened when I had the mold new and didn't bother to wash of the baby powder it was sprinkled in straight from Bruce. Just poured in some excessive plaster from a different cast to see which parts can be cast in plaster. 3) Must have got my mixture wrong. It didn't cure properly. Some uncured resin expanded from the inside after initial cure. 4) trying out a different casting method with resin and having a HUGE bubble trapped in the lid section. The top was <1mm thick where the bubble had formed. I pierced the bubble from below to make a hole which looks like some undead trying to escape.

What did strike me is, that even painting them up the same colour scheme caused huge differences in the way they looked.
