Picked up a few singles from this set, looked over the poster. Have no thoughts whatsoever on gaming mechanics, but on character selection/aesthetics I did have a few things to say.

1. Why is it called "Force Unleashed" instead of "Assault: HOTH!"? Seems like this is 40% ESB stuff.

2. Why make a Huge set if you aren't going to commit? And if you are going to do a practically-all-EU Huge set, why not make the whole SET a largely-EU set, with a real identifiable theme? The regular figures in this set feature tons of ESB players, and there are even three Hoth huge figures. The rest seem cobbled-together. And I'm sorry but "warpaint Rancor" and "AT-ST with different guns" are LAME. Actually, IMHO, much of the huges in this set are lame, and it just feels aimless. Looking at the prices online, I don't appear to be alone in this.

3. Why is Obi-Wan's lighsaber green? They finally made a decent dueling Obi-Wan, but they gave him a green lightsaber?

4. Han Carbonite is the goofiest thing ever. I really wanted one, I'm terribly happy to have one, it's fantastic, but I can't believe they made "character as block of stone" as an actual playable piece. Neat trick.

5. I customized an AT-AT driver a few years ago and ironically, perhaps not all that surprisingly though, chose almost EXACTLY the same pose they did. I used the first X-wing pilot, and I repositioned him slightly -- mine's legs are nearly in the same pose, the gun is in the same arm posed in the same way, facing the same direction. The only difference is the angle on one elbow. Hm.

6. The Hoth turret is the most well-detailed, well-painted version of this thing EVER. Blows the toy incarnations away. And the rebel troop cart is so cool I wish Hasbro would make one for the toy line. Wasn't there one back in the 70's? Essentially a carrying case. Very neat item, feels appropriate to Action Fleet layouts, though, since we don't have enough vehicles in the SWM line to really make a hangar scene "work." Great for games, though, if the stats/rules make sense.

Anyhoo, them's my thoughts.

L,

I agree with you on the theme. WOTC had the same problem with the DDM this last set. THe last set only had a few figures from the Desert and/or the original module whichever it got it's name from. I think that they pick a few figures they are proud of and then give the set a name. It does not mean that they willl stick to the theme.

curious to see how good the console game will be. amazon already has a booster pic for "legacy of the force" online. Looks like it will feature characters from the new comic series. I agree with you on the huges although i do like the knobby spider as well.

1 Part of it couls be that comming in December to Target is an Actual Hoth Scenerio Pack could be trying to tie products in for the loads of Hoth.
Could also be that Hoth is one of the few real Battles you ever see in movies, so it has a lot to draw on.
Force Unleashed is to tie it into the upcomming game, and for the new mechanic of Loads of figures with Renewal, and building up to do more powers or more powerful powers instead of the current one shor powers.

2. Semes about the same as other Huge sets, in D&D and SW 10. D&D does 12 or something, not a big difference in my mind, espically if you add in the VR factor.
3 of Huges are Straight out of the Movies 4 are from the new game (the name of the set) 2 are old school EU, and the third is "kotor".

3. Most likely due to Game, pretty sure that he is in the game.

4. Now i can really do a Bespin layout... :)

5. I want scads of these as they are just White Tie Pilots, who are just black versions of Rebel pilots with a different face plate and black instead of Orange.

6. Turret is intersting i pulled one in sealed and it had the opponents running, from it, decent to hit, silly HP, but really low attack bonus, it is a very interesting to deal with, if it could get another shot off it would be very worth the price for it in a squad. carefull placement is key with it.

6a. The troop cart is cool, pulled 5 gave one away though. There was an Imp version years ago in 3.75, that could double a bit as a fig case i don't remember a rebel one unless you mini the Mini Rigs there was something similar but really small and no case feature. For cases i remember the trays (have all three) the Chewie bandoler, the Vader and C3PO cases that's all i remember there might be more (from the 70's there is of course the Falcon a few years back but that's a different line).

Yep! I love the Force Unleashed set. I think the war paint Rancor is a bit foolish though. Everything else is good. I can't say for sure, until I get my orders'. The mini I am most excited about is the Luke and Yoda. Also known as "Loda" on the SWM forum. I have been wishing they would make that fig.

Just got my order in yesterday and am pleased for the most part with what I got. Would have liked one more of the Golan turrets, so I'll probably be hitting ebay for that (and maybe the new Rancor depending on what it is going for).

The good:

Golan turret - great for Hoth scenarios, or anywhere that takes its security seriously.

transport - good stand-in for any hover vehicle, especially nice to put PC minis into

droids - Nice that they added several more to the list

Troopers - always nice to get a little more variety, though making a plain 'Stormtrooper' an uncommon seems a little odd

Shadow guard - I don't know why, but I really like these guys. May look for a few more of them to make my players quake with fear! :)

The bad:

Ugnaughts - In general I'm not a big fan of having the same species represented multiple times in a set when they've played such a minor role and there are plenty of other species with no representation yet.

Cloud city guy - either my eyes are tricking me or this guys has definitely been eating his wheaties

tank droid - I'm sorry, but this piece is just plain boring.

droid rarities - why oh why can't these be commons or uncommons? :(

My biggest prob with the Ughnaughts is that they are differnt sizes, the Boss is smaller than the Tech, and not sure how they match up to the demolishonist...
