The gallery isn't official, so some of it ain't pretty, but here are the figs coming out in November:

www.ddmspoilers.com/dod_stats.html

I really am glad they finally did a gelatinous cube, though I do wish they'd forgone the "capture a mini" technique and simply made a cool resin cube with stuff floatin' in it. Their approach is just a cheap plastic shell, it doesn't look NEARLY as neat as most of the homemade creations.

So I think I'll end up getting an extra somehow, and then sticking a Reaper figure in it and pouring some resin in myself. It won't be the same, since the thickness of the outer shell will warp and distort any possible effects I could produce with my resin, but it'll at least be slightly improved. Plus, there's a chance I could get a neat effect out of the way it'll be "layered," with like a hard crusty shell on the outside and the slightly-different-color goop on the in.

And there are some other figs in there I really dig, including the large fire elemental. I'm gonna want tons of that, if only to simulate a raging fire somewhere -- like in a tavern, forcing the heroes into the cellars to escape... and into the Dark...

L,

I saw them last night also. They are awesome in my opinion. This for me is the best set in a long time if not ever. The variety of drow is awesome but does not evan compare to some of the other figures. The swarms is nice, repose of the bone devil and umber hulk is awesome, not to mention finally a fey folk figure, albeit a bit rough looking. The angel of vengence and the animated staue is AWESOME!!! The couple mounts, merchant guard and elf conjurer is great. The mercenary general and the astral stalker are really great. The fire denizens, new poses on the troll and ogre are also good but my favorite, (Because my world views shadows differently than DND) is the shadow mastiff. A truly great figure in my mind.
I still wish they would put out an invisible figure, black pudding, mimic and some other fey folk. The thing I am worried about si that they have a good thing going they are gaining popularity with folks that do not game but... Introducing a gargantuan orcus as the next icon is questionable. As a gamer I do not need a gargantuan orcus just becuase he may polymorgh into that size. The large orcus I have is deadly enough for most campaigns. The skirmish players generally do not use the gargantuan figures or at least I have never used one onr have I seen one use at the FLGS. People who have been collecting the icon figures for dragons who are just that dragon collectors will not buy orcus and I can not see grandma buying orcus for little johnny for christmas. I wish they would have done a green dragon or maybe a tarrasque. Something that is supposed to be gargantuan or collosal. Or even another scenario pack, maybe a half a dozen of huge giants, fire, storm, hill, etc. Or a troup of drow, goblins, ogres, etc. Anyway I have gone on to much. I love this set. Worried about future sets.

The only thing i would worry about with putting the Resin in the GC they make, is melting the plastic, i've tried something like that before and the heat from the Resin just melted the plastic container, shape it was filling....

Yeah i like most of the Uncommons and Commons, and Finally a FARMER!, a true commoner type mini, *beep* they just need a few more types. I wonder of the requests for Townsfolk over at reaper brought that on.

Some good minis for sure, and some lame ass stuff too. Did we really need another Harpy, especially a male one, which don't even exist? And whats that Tiefling doing with is tail?

I wonder what the new 4e versions of all the monsters will look like....

The next set Dungeons of Dread will be 4e/2.0 skirmish....

L - do you post on DDMSpoilers? If so, who are you on that site?

For those interested, here's a much better view of these new minis...

www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mg/dod

For me, it's the Drow/Driders that I'm looking for in my cavern set-ups and an army of the Sahaugin for my River/Lake set-ups!

...fun stuff!

I think These are what they look like.
The Troll is the new look, and...

Well, my G. cube experiment is curing right now. I mixed up a batch of Enviro-Tex Lite high gloss finish, essentially a clear resin that's used to varnish bar tops, and tinted it with yellow brown. It came out too opaque, frustratingly, since that ruins the whole point of having a transparent monster, but not so opaque that you can't see the skeletons inside at ALL. I had originally intended to suspend some Reaper skeletons from the open top of the cube with string, do half the cube, and then once the bottom had dried enough to hold the skeletons in place, I'd remove the string and do the rest of the cube, so I'd have things completely suspended. In the end, though, I didn't trust my ability to match the tint exactly the second time, and rather than risk having a hideous two-tone cube (plus, rather than having to sit through the whole messy process TWICE) I decided I'd just settle for resting them on the bottom and accept that they'd be floating a little high in the end.

I'm overall happy so far, but there's a lot that is still unknown -- will the resin dry right, will any spillage make the thing irretrievably sticky, will it be too opaque, will the plastic cube melt from the chemical processes of the resin curing... (I've got it in a box sitting in another box now, so if the whole thing just melts it shouldn't hurt anything but two perfectly good boxes...)

Still, it was worth a shot, and a lot easier than making my own cube from scratch....

Most of these are very nice. Still, I would hate to get a case and for one of the rares pull that Dwarf, Merchant or that Rage Drake.

Well, it's not totally dry, but I can tell the result of my GC experiment.

The good:

It didn't melt or ruin the outer cube.
The color is pretty much exactly what I wanted.
You can see the skeletons inside.
The thickness of the clear plastic doesn't look "off" against the resin inside -- it doesn't look like a GC with a clear candy shell, which I feared might happen.

The bad:

It's far too opaque.

I'm definitely gonna take a second crack at this. The general plan works really really well, but I shouldn't have tinted the resin as much as I did. I seemed like it was very clear, but I forget how quickly any color reduces visibility -- what looks like essentially clear, only slightly tinted when you pull out your stirring stick is in fact going to be very, very dark when you've got a large amount of it deeply set.

pics up eventuallly,

From my work with Envirotex it won't go all sticky, that always came from the Casting Craft Resin

L -

MicroMark has an amber-clear resin that supposedly cures transparent amber, almost like the stuff used as amber for the dead mosquito in Jurassic Park (remember that sequence?). It might even BE the same material, I'm not sure. And it mixes, pours and cures the same as their other water-thin resins, same heat range when curing, and same cure times, same rock-hard final cure. I would suggest checking with them before using it for a full translucent mold, however. And if theirs ISN'T full translucent, check with the Smooth-On people; they have one, also.

Good luck, or as the Klingons say,

"Q'a'plA!"

I found the time to do a quick second-stab at a GC, and I'm VERY happy with the results. I think the two problems that plagued me last time were 1) old resin that had already yellowed, and 2) failing to recognize that resin yellows. As a result, because I wanted a nice amber tone, I used a tint and ended up with something almost entirely opaque. This time I left it largely clear, and when I returned, I found it had yellowed on its own -- to the perfect tone! This time it's very clear, and the color is almost exactly what I wanted. My only regret is that I didn't put more inside to be seen -- at first blush, the stuff seemed clear/white but still relatively opaque, because of all the air bubbles. A great many of them dissipated as it cured, though, leaving me with something I'm VERY pleased to have. I'll post pics when I get a chance.
