Very Kewl... Over the Years I have had a Myriad of Fantasies about what might be Possible in terms of Gaming Environments... This would seem to be a Wonderful expression of many of them... I am Glad that someone out there has managed to create that Dream for themselves... So Kudos! And though it may be a Thin Line Between Genius and Insanity, I Think that it Can not be Understated that it is The Journey that Changes the Traveler, and Not the Destination... Every Single Choice Leads to a Larger Universe...

This thread and a few others got me rethinking our current game area. which we recently re-did. We have two tables, set up where the Terrain or Chessex mats go, and sometimes the Terrain, DF Scifi, or Cardstock, go on the Matts we use the mats for background. That is the play area.
It consists of a long rectangle. Two players can sit at the thin side, and 3-4 at the long, and we would have room at the other thin side for 2 more, but we added another table there, which pulls the player away away from the play area, where 2-3 more can sit.

To cut down on clutter at the table, you get 1 book (1 guy has the PHB, one the MM, another the Complete Warrior for his PrC) and a Character source. That is the loophole, as long as it is neatly orgnized this can be pretty darn big. I have a Wiz in the game i am a PC, and well every spell i have is in that player source, cut and pasted from the SRD and serves as a "spell book" , that sheets on monsters summoned, and my familar, scrolls, how to make them etc are all in a 3 ring binder, i have everything my character needs or uses right there, many taken from the SRD or put into Word and added. So i don't need 8 books. i have access to them, on shelves, be hind me but don't have them on the table, everyone has a shelf behind them to store books on etc, Food goes on a small table just for you, to keep things off the play area (it is actually a bar stool next to you).

On the opposite side of the long side with the players is the GM's side, he has the whole side to him self, two smaller roller storage units with the current adventure behind DM screens, and a dice rolling surface (even with a little box so they don't go flying) forming a U. Behind him is another table and a book case, the table is the same size (long not as wide as the game area) with books spread out, a map of the campaing area, (one of the FR maps) under plastic, and all of the source books in use, and 4 display cases of minis. We added the dispaly cases this weekend and really open things up. To the left of that and off to one side is the collection of Terrain... it is very nice, all we need now is a CD player or such, for mood music and it will go pretty well.

Sounds like a Pretty Good Set up... Any Pics to give us? As a GM I find I usually need a Whole Side of a Table, though had I the Space and Resouces a "GM's Cockpit" would be awesome... (Not to Mention a Coin-up Soda Machine!) I also encourage the use of Separate "Snack" tables (We use TV trays), just to minimize Clutter on the Table... In the Past folks have talked about using PDA's or similar for refrence, I think that I would be happy with a Lap-top... You mentioned an SRD? What is this?

I wanted to get some TV trays, but couldn't find any, where do you still buy those things!

I sometimes run my laptop from that back table, with the SRD on file, and E-tools very handy.

SRD...??? System Refernce Document.
this the online version of the DMG,PHB,MM

A great refernce for anyone playing D&D

I Feel like an Idiot for not Looking Harder for this kind of resource... (I'll Still make the Spell Cards 'cause they are a great asset, but now I can Cut and Paste)!

Oh... And you can usually Find TV trays at places like Bed, Bath and Beyond... (Maybe Wally-world)? We use Some Nice Blonde Wooden ones we got for Christmas a couple of years ago... Very Sturdy, and they came with a Stand to Hang them on when not in use...

I couldn't find any at target, I was going to hit wally world, but i nipped in on the way to my game, and was amazed at how crowded it was, it was kind of funny, i walked in and two other guys by themselves were walking in at the same time,, we looked at the massive lines at the check out, the only 5 lanes open, and the three of us who didn't know each other, turn and walk right back out. it was kind of funny becuase we were all like F this. I have been to that one before, and with about 10 lines open, with less people, it still takes just 25 minutes for the line, it was WAYYYYYY worse yesterday...

will have to try at an odd hour, or see if i can wrangle up a bed bath and beyond.

Yeah the SRD is great, i love it, really helps for core rules stuff, and saving them as word docs the basic rules, you can quickly do a search to find all the rules for grappleing etc, in a flash. You may still have to type in odd ball spells not from the book, but this gives a great aid in you can steal formats from other spells ehheeheh

Hi guys. Hi MLV. Long time no talk!

I picked up my t.v. trays at Target. Blonde wood with a cool little tray caddy to hang them all on. You can also find this exact set at CVS Drugs if you have that chain in your state.

I gotta' come back when I have some more time to contribute more to the group! Take care!

You can buy Spell Cards already made from RPGNow, and they have a demo so you can see what you'll be getting. They do have a minimum order of $6.40 though.

(I'm in no way affiliated with RPGNow or the makers of the cards, just know they're available)
