...was just scoping out the newly released D&D mini photos from "Night Below" --

www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mg/nb

They've got some interesting figures available this go-round. A few Brass Golems in my DOE set-up would look pretty cool. That Frost Giant isn't bad...have to get some of those Ice Mephits too!

The Shadow Dragon is "different", along with the Medusa Archer. Hey, those frog-guys are kinda cool! I'll have to get a small army of those to go with my new cavernous lake expansion!

I know that the paint job on some of these aren't the best, but some of these minis are pretty cool.

Fun stuff!

Woo-hoo! The gallery is up!

Well, this set has long been about one thing for me: RAISTLIN!

Sure, from my current vantage point I can recognize the pulp cheesiness of the Dragonlance novels, but when I was in middle school, Raistlin was just about the closest thing I had to philosophy. He was just a spectacular invention, and a great crucible for moral reflection.

The rest of the set looks nice, but since the next set is going to have a GELATINOUS CUBE, this set still feels a bit like a placeholder to me. ;) Even with Raistlin -- who'd need Caramon, Tanis, Flint, and Kitiara to even BEGIN to feel like enough to placate the thirteen year-old in me -- I am looking forward to this set but not rabid about it.

Still, I'm very glad the gallery is up! One more week (er, and a day...)

Eh, again the decent ones are the Rares, which i mostly won't be able to get, just a complete set of C/U for me, and maybe, maybe 1-2 boosters and i'm done with the set. I like some of the Rares, but for the most part yeah they are knd of looking eh, they are use full (i really like that Gnoll claw fighter, i think it looks like a good Shistivian from SW :) , would make a Great Martial artist for one, or maybe a Sith... :) )

Actually, this time I think I prefer the U to the R. The Clawborn Scorrow looks great, as does Raistlin and the Shadow Dragon, but the rest of the rares aren't blowing me away.

But the U -- Cerebilith, drow enforcer, digester, shadow, large chaos beast, babau -- they look really great. And, as always, I'm thinking in terms of DF, namely what will look cool skulking about my caverns or populating my DoE...

Yeah, I'm with you L...those Uncommons look pretty good in this set. I'm hoping to get 2 Brass Golems, one Shadow, a few of the Drow Enforcers and several Ice Mephits out of that group. That Large Chaos Beast looks very weird...not sure about that thing!

Out of the commons, that Gnoll Claw Fighter, that Ghengis likes, does look good and the Hobgoblin Marshall gets an honorable mention too. I hope to snag a few Darkmantles, Kuo-Toa Hunters and a couple of prisoners (those can always come in handy).

After looking at these all day, I think my 3 favorite Rares are: Lady Vol, Clawborn Scorrow and that Shadow Dragon.

I had some successful trades with some of you guys last time...maybe we can work out somes deals. L, if I get Raistlin Majere, I'll be glad to save one for you!

I just used a hobgoblin marshal leading a pack of goblins in a recent D&D Meetup game, and he kicked the party's behind. Vargath Ironteeth is feeling pretty good, though the next time he encounters PCs, the tide may turn (I sure hope the players use better tactics this time).

I'm not saying the U or the C are bad, there are some i really like. Darkmantle, Gnoll, , Delver Sergeant, Hobgoblin Marshal , Digester, and Shadow are really nice, and there are some i want a bunch of (namely while i will likely buy a few packs so i can get some randoms after i buy a set of U and C), and the Cerebrilith, Prisoner and Assassin are great, would like a few extra of those, but a few of the Rares would be really, really handy for the game i'm running now (a massive Epic fight where the BBEG of the campaing makes a re-apearance after being gone for levels), i need about 9 Flesh Golems for an up comming fight... going to have to figure something ouy for that... And i would love to get 9 but just can't afford them.

Hello Everyone,

So I want to put it out there. I am ramping up my DDM. I did some trades the last go around and would be willing to do some trades again this time. I typically get 2 cases + 1 booster when the set arrives. I have already purchased 30 of the kuo folks. What is a new Cavernous Water Expansion set without the Kuo? I missed teh origianl carrion crawler so this one would be great for me. I love the shadow dragon. The only thing i would note is that I wish that they would come up with some of the creatures from the tome of magic in the shadow magic section. An Umbral Dire Lion would be great or a 'child of the night' would be great.

My local store let me pick up my pre-order early, I guess since I had pre-ordered it. Anyhoo, I was really pleased with my pulls -- and I have to say, the Dracotaur Rager is PERFECT for matching up with the DF lizardmen, if you have them. (also great matches: GW's Sauruses -- if you have painted them the same green, the scale design is nearly identical)

Lots of good stuff here -- I pulled about 50 figures that I really, really like. Better set than I expected; this and Unhallowed were both really solid expansions.

I did get a Raistlin, as a matter of fact...

As for the set, I realized something: I was being too hard on the prices for these. I paid about $130 for a case, and earned a $25 gift cert. by spending so much at once. I plan to sell about 40 of them back to the store, which buys singles at 50 cents a piece. I may sell a few uncommons on eBay to get more money back, and I have exactly one rare to sell there, too. (I don't think I'll be trading this time -- I need the money too much!)

I'm keeping about 50 figures or so, which means once all is said and done, I'll have spent almost $100 on a set of 50 minis. That's a pretty decent deal! I'm happy with the ones I'm keeping, there are only a few repeats in my pile. And not only is $2 a figure a good deal for just regular minis, when you count things like the Shadow Dragon and the White Dragon and the Dracotaur and some of the other figures -- which Reaper would charge $11-15 and GW would be happy to sell for $25-35 -- it's outstanding.

So this set really did turn out to be pretty sweet.
