I am interested in locating any toys, models etc that have translucent, (coloured) plastic flames included.

I really like the appearance of the translucent, (coloured) plastic flames and wouldn't mind modifying some of the pre-made stuff as long as either the cost is reasonable -(for smaller amounts), or if there is a reasonable quantity of plastic "flames" included.

Either way, I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks again.

Steve.

Well, two things leap to mind -- I know there are some plastic "wall of flame" counters, I think Gale Force 9 makes them - they've been discussed here, browsing through threads from the past few months should show more detail, including pics.

I can also point out two Star Wars figures, both recent releases that you should be able to find at places like Target, that come with GREAT plastic translucent flames. One is R2-D2, the little garbage can droid, "flying" -- he plugs into a massive jet of flame plume that serves as a stand. The other is a "Super Battle Droid" that has flames all over it that detach. You can plug R2 onto the Battle Droid so that he's toasting it with his leg jets. (If you saw "Revenge of the Sith," you'll recognize the scene being depicted by these two) Both the flame pieces are pretty great.

There are also... let's see... well, some older SW figures have some, but I can't recall them all. Right now there's a "Concept figure" of Boba Fett that comes with a spout of flame that plugs into his arm-mounted flamethrower.

I may be able to think of others. Of course the $75 WOTC Colossal Red Dragon comes with a massive removeable flame spout, but it's far too big and too expensive to be worth getting just for the fire.

Ww, what exactly are you looking for, flamewise? What do you want to do with it?

Are you looking for things to make campfires, or burning pools/fields, or walls or rings of flame?

L has covered all of the good flames I know of. My web search yielded results for fire-EATING gear and sites dedicated to making plastic (toys) flame-retardant. (It's times like this I miss Toys-R-Us, and the old warehouse layout -- you could do a systematic search for what you wanted.)

I'd be interested to hear from some of the modders out there. How difficult would it be to make a mold from a fire sculpt, then recast it in translucent plastic? Also, what are the legalities involved in doing so, if it is only done for private use (no money made, no products changing hands)?

Hey guys!

On a DF forum, and you don't mention the FLAMES in the DoE Fire Pots?
(razzberry!)

Steve, I don't KNOW if those will do what you need, but it's an idea. Also, SW minis have a Boba Fett from the Rebel Storm set that is just taking off, as in the Sarlacc scene from Return of the Jedi; those flames might serve your purpose as well.

Just a couple more ideas.

Well, I don't start law school for two months, but I'm pretty sure that if no money changes hands, it's totally legal.

From WoTC DDM line:

Huge fire elemental
Small fire elemental
Fire Mephit
Magma Hurler
Azura

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. Many of the above are made entirely out of translucent "firery" plastic.

I can't believe I left out the WOTC minis! Yeah, I guess I was thinking entirely in terms of "just flames" or things that could be custom fodder -- those WOTC figures are just pretty much what they are.

They are VERY fun to modify, though -- I painted the center of my Azura and my Fire Mephit, gave them a nice wash -- now the flames look more like they're emerging from a solid body, and the whole mini looks less like a piece of candy....

Watch for Ghost Rider and Human Torch (FF) toys -- they might have some useful accessories.

Hi Wereweasel,

Here's the links to the flames you are looking for I think...

www.gf9.com/store/index.php?cPath=28_41

I purchased the wall of flames, the smaller flames, wall of smoke/fog, poison clouds and ice some time ago. They were all truly beautiful when used with the DF layouts. I wish I had a camera. I recommend them ALL!

A feature that you might be looking for towards modification, or whatever, is that the flames, fog, poison clouds, ice, etc. can all be detached from their bases. They are also translucent and their colors are bold and bright.

Definitely worth a look!

~Cheers

I must agree with Ghostmage - those pieces are very useful, very cheap, very good looking!

Wow Ghost rider... duh, i have been ignoring those yeah there maybe some good stuff there...
And i think they just hit markdown in a number of places... :)
I have been working on sculpinting some and well, haven't gotten any masters i really like, and so far it's just freaking eaiser to make them in none clear form so i haven't bothered to try a mold (also have no RTV... and can't justify the order for just flames)

I have the roundish GF9 flames. They work out really well in the DF pieces and they look great! I'd recommend them.
