I don't "play" with them, i learned in college it's to hard to play with stuff. the free form stuff you did as a kid is just too hard.

A number of toys broke sitting on shelves, i had a few figs i really liked (Ash, a creature from the black lagoon too name two i was really shocked at) Sitting on my desk at work the Shot gun holster just fell off the Ash, and the Sea Creature (which was being used as an Alien in a 3.75 inch SW diorama) head just freaken fell off one day. It was moved twice and sat on a shelf for years and one night i heard a plunk, and after looking the head had fallen off...

I'm not saying it happens to all of them, but they just are too fragile.

It sounds like the glue failed on the shotgun holster -- glue will dry out after a few years. The arm thing is definitely a case of poor construction, although it might have been case specific and atypical.

But yes, they are fragile. I don't think much of anything is really built to last anymore. (Old Fogey rant deleted by Old Fogey.) That's another reason I love DF. This stuff is built old-school, for people who want to buy something once and keep it forever.

Full pics and details on Series 7 of the Dragons line is now out!

And, in a development nobody expected -- they're mostly marginally altered REISSUES. Hm. My wallet and shelfspace is pretty grateful, but I have to admit I'm disappointed. There had been NO indication that this was coming.

Check it out here:

www.spawn.com/news/news2.aspx?id=13148

My reaction to the specifics:

Water dragon: Well, this IS one of the better water dragons, I thought. The new larger wings are a welcome change, since the wings were the only things I disliked about the original (at least, at first, before I came to appreciate them). Of course, I am NOT crazy about the color scheme. Really ugly, I think.

Ice dragon: Not sure where this one comes from. Looks like a kitbash from several previous dragons, including a sorcerer and possibly the most recent water (from series 5). Nice, though. I like the snow, and the coloring is interesting. For some reason, though the scheme is similar to the Water clan, I like it more here. Possibly because it's the red "flourishes" that bother me so much on the Water clan. Two of these, painted gold, would be VERY COOL statues guarding the entrance to something very Important.

Warrior dragon: Oh my. That's just... wrong. I am not crazy about the Fire clan this is based on, but at least a full-on Chinese dragon made sense. This is... wow.

Fire dragon: OK, a straight repaint with very minor change. So minor it looks like it is meant to be pretty much the same species. Interesting. Not that great, though. Colors, again, don't quite work.

And then the hydra.

Overall -- I am not impressed. I thought the series peaked with 4, and 5 was pretty adequate but for the annoying "diorama" approach. Series 6 looks like it has some neat stuff in it, but 7 looks nearly worthless. The reissues are frustrating, but what really kills the series is the terrible color selection they've gone with. Each and every one of these is sub-par in this respect, with the best, the Ice dragon, being merely adequate. The others are all just off, ranging from slightly-off to terribly, terribly wrong. A real shame.

May skip this wave....

The only one i thought was decent was the Warrior... The pose is intersting, a little conviluted or something, but i didn't think the color was too bad makes a decent Blue in my mind.

But come on, can you really expect less from McToys, repros, repaints, are pretty classic to them, yeah it got better for a time, but still pretty well know for doing loads of repaints, and varients,

The Ice and Fossil from 6 will most likely get one, at first i didn't like the Hunter, but it might look good in the SW universe as some alien monster...
