The 12" Hydra with three heads -- looks FANTASTIC! The McF line has pretty much done more funky, non-traditional dragons, but this is something straight out of Harryhausen, a classic hydra. And at 12", it's gonna be twice or even three times the size of previous dragons in this line... really, great great stuff...

Amazing that they can produce larger, better sculpted, better painted minis for less than a RARE dragon goes for from WoTC DDM line...

I don't think so, they aren't that great quality. I have purchased a number of McToys over the years from the Movie Manic stuff, (a number of the Evil Dead, and others) some of the spawn stuff, and even the 3-4 inch monsters from way back in the 90's. And 60% of them are broken, some just sitting on the shelf. From the new Dragons Two of the 5 McDragons i have bought are broken already. they are really not designed ever to come out of the box, or have the parts that "Move", move. "McToys" are overproduced and use some pretty cheap plastic. I worked at a TRU all through grads school and the biggest precent of returns we got from "Blue/Boys 200" were McToys, cuase if you opned the pack they tend to break, we pulled cases and opened them with busted figures still sealed in the pacakge. They are very cheaply made.

None of my displayed McF dragons are broken, but then I just display them -- I don't play with them. They are not toys, and they are not gaming aids, they are display models.

If you are simply plunking your dragon down in the middle of a table (with or without DF) and waging combat around it, you are going to get a certain amount of jostling just from people brushing against it when they move their minis, or when they bump the table. If you are moving the dragon around (changing its facing, or picking it up and putting it down in different spots) then it is experiencing much more activity than it was designed for. If you are actually grabbing the dragon and flying it around and slapping minis with its tail and knocking it over to simulate powerful hits and/or death blows, then you are actually abusing it.

Use your McF dragons for decoration, or carefully on the gaming table, and you shouldn't have any problem with them.

I agree with both of you, actually. ;) McF stuff is notorious for fragility -- but the dragons seem a little more durable than some other lines, largely because there are fewer thin, sinewy parts.

The big point, for me, though, is that the dragons are largely non-articulated, they really are like gaming minis. That means that if something DOES break, I can just glue it back together without losing anything. It makes that issue irrelevant for me, easily dealt with.

On the other hand, these are definitely larger, more detailed, and better painted than most dragons on the market. The WOTC dragons are bigger, but less impressive in paint and sculpt, and FAR more expensive -- also they've only done 3 so far, while McF is at, what, thirty!?

BTW, that site mentioned that pics from series 7 (due in October - series 6 is due in July...) would be up on Friday, for those who care....
