Ok, so what do all of the SWM collectors think about the square bases with the "Star Wars" lettering on the side of the base? Ok? or Not Ok? I am a bit worried about this. I want all of my SWM plasti to look coherent. What about everyone else?

I just asked this over at the WOTC forums the other day, and apparently, a LOT of people were pissed. Others were indifferent, and many seemed to have a "wait and see" kinda attitude.

So I suppose we'll see. I, personally, am annoyed. I wouldn't mind the change if they were going to change the rules slightly, or do some other change for the anniversary. But instead it's this random "Happy 30th! SQUARE!" It just makes no sense, there's no reasoning behind it, and I prefer consistency.

Ah well.

hopefully the square bases dont make the figures raised over the others . Too me the figures are much more usefull in setups and rpg. If there is no signifigant height differences in the bases than im ok with it otherwise ill mod a few onto older bases and only buy a select few. not worth the time

As a major collector i kind of feel what's the big deal?
I don't care.
If the figs are good i'll be happy.
Do All of your other minis look excatly the same base wise?
There are "brocolli" bases, lSquare, round, hex etc in my collection.
These will be no different. As long as height wise they are close i don't give a flying fig what shape the base is, as long as it fits in a 1x1 square.
I have had a number of people ask me this and i just don't see the big deal of it.

I'm with you on this one, GS; why whine about something that really doesn't 'figure' into the equation?

IF, on the other hand, the base DOES significantly alter the size or balance of the figure, THEN it's time to raise holy hell.
But ONLY then.

Besides, it's all a Marketing Ploy anyway; change the base, call it 30th anniversary, sell you the same figure again. It's like Lucas selling us the same 3 movies (SW 4-6) 5 different ways - VHS/Beta Original release, VHS 20th anniversary boxed set, VHS 20th anniversary Added/Updated footage boxed set, DVD A/U boxed set, DVD A/U 6-pack boxed set; now he's going for 30th anniversary 3D boxed set - HOW MANY TIMES ARE WE GOING TO BUY THE SAME THING? Now WotC wants to do the same thing, for the same reason - M-O-N-E-Y.

See ya!

I'm sure you're right about that, Jim. This set is almost certainly going to feature a lot of figures that have already been released for this game. My biggest worry is that we won't be getting that many new OT characters despite the fact that this is the first OT release since hte game started, like two years ago. Or three. I can't even remember.

When the game began, we got 60 figs, of which 57 or so were straight-from-the-screen movie characters.

In the ensuing four expansions (Clone Strike, Revenge of the Sith, Universe, Bounty Hunters) we got something like another 50 or so new characters (and ships like the Skiff and Snowspeeder). That's the equivalent of a new set spread out over THREE YEARS.

I was hoping this new set would probably fill in some gaps for me, but I now kinda doubt it will. If it does, it will be roughly in line with all the EU/prequel expansions -- 10 new OT characters at most.

And with all the rest likely being repeats or slight variations, I expect that changing the base and marketing it as a special anniversary tihng is being done to make it feel justified that it's mostly the same stuff we already have.

To be fair, the first set came out in 2004, and even though it's been reissued, there are some figs that people haven't been able to find. So, fine, yeah, this is like a reboot for the newbies.

STRICTLY FOR THOSE WHO CARE PART OF THE MESSAGE BELOW

To be fair, also, I think most of what I want are generic background types, anyway. TIE pilots, A-wing pilots, AT-AT drivers, Imperial Officers, etc.

And when I mentioned "slight variations" -- I wouldn't mind movie-accurate versions of races we've already seen. A Duros, but in the outfit we saw in the Cantina. An ugnaught, but in the outfits they wore on Bespin. A Bith, but with a musical instrument (yeah, like that'll happen)

Most of the hero types I feel like they've given us what we need. I still want a Bespin Han, a Bespin Leia, and a Hoth Luke and Han (minus the Taun Taun). Given the amount of slight variation resculpts we've seen, I would like a Bespin Luke armed with a blaster instead of a lightsaber. And I'd love a new Ben - the ghost one is nice, but that's not what I mean. The only Ben we've had so far is so ugly it's ridiculous. A normal Kenobi would be nice after all this time.

Not to hijack a thread or anything, but this is related...

I have a real problem with the increased base size of large creatures of the WoTC plastic minis - they now are much more difficult to fit into the DF corridors, especially caverous ones! AND the larger base has contributed to gratuitous size creep...

Has anyone taken a pair of sizzors/tin shears to their large size creature bases?

Harnelootm hadn't noticed an increase in Large base sizes.. will have to check.

L et al.
I actually want a mix of both of the many generics, specifics, and EU stuff. But then i play the RPG, and would love a member of every species in every class... so i might be a bit extreme here.

I Do want TIE pilots (the one unique we have just doesn't cut it), Death Star/Imp troopers (the guys with the black open faced helmets) More officers, More snow troopers of Rebel and Imps, but like you i also want just a few more of the A non Luke Taun-taun, a Hoth Han, a Luke on Hoth not on a Taun-tuan, but aftet that other than a few random different movie versions of the OT heroes, i don't need a more Rebels or Imps.

I also want the other aliens we haven't seen.
The rest of the cantina, more of Jabba's goons, The Rebel species in different garb (a Sullastian other than Nien Nunb).

But for me i also want to see an expansion of some of the other squads.
It will be very interested to see what comes out in this set.
So far a confimed Scout trooper, a Vong, Leia, a Trandoshan soldier, Wicket, Vader/Anakin (there has to be 1 in every set), Chewbacca, Luke, Obi, Han (storm trooper so most likely not in Hoth *Sigh*), Biggs, and most likely Ephont Man, that is 12 figures right there.
And don't forget there should be some form of Rebel Troopers and Stormtrooper or droids, there always is
14 likely out of 60, with 4 factions covered, Rebels covered pretty well, Chewie, Luke, Han, Biggs, Leia, and ghost Obi. half of confirmed are Rebel...

Vong, Fringe, Imps, Rebels, are known.

There could also be Mandalorians, Sith, Old Republic, New Republic, Republic and Seperatists.
If they go with "previous trends" they have waited from, not waiting at all to fill out figures, NR in CotF and appeared in Universe the previous set to 2 set gap to get YV back in with this one, and no OR, Sith, NR, or YV in BH. But so far no set since the introduction of the Republic and Septs has not had those. They might be good ones to nix for a set. So there are gaps it will be intersting to see what is in this set.

But i know what i don't like, that s gaps that don't fill in at least 1 figure for a faction, i wanted a few more commons/Uncommons in the YV for a long time and would not be annoyed with some diversity in the Sith/OR/NR/R/Sep/Mandy. For the Vong we know have a named figure, great R at minimum. Hope we get a few more U/C in it. If so that 60 figure set has shrunk by another 3 minis to 5 taken up with YV (in my mind not a bad thing). So we only have 45-42 figures left to go over possibly 6 more factions.
There could be loads of fringe but i hope not after BH with so many, about 60% of the set.

I would be happy with just 5 fringe to get more variety of other figures, but WotC has been crazy in faction distrubution before so who knows what we have coming... As long as they are planing more sets i can wait to get some of the oddball species, i just hope this does well for the RPG.

Really? Hm, I had been under the impression that this was an all-movie set. Someone shouted that at me when I posted at the WOTC forums that I wanted more OT stuff and was sick of all the non-OT figs.

Certainly they are marketing it as all-OT -- the box art, the anniversary, etc. all stress the films.

I mean, I enjoy the prequel figures, and the EU figures, but I find it disproportionately anti-OT. I mean, five sets and only ONE has been dedicated to the OT. And typically 40-45 figures in each set are non-OT. That is a VERY large number.

And, to be fair, there is a LOT of material out there. But still --

Rebel Storm was OT.
Clone Strike was prequels -- mostly II.
Revenge of the Sith, duh, was prequels -- mostly III.
Universe was a mix.
Champions of the Force (which I forgot in my post above) was EU.
Bounty Hunters was a mix.

So we've had a set dedicated to everything (minus I, of course, but we'll ignore that for now....) and it seems time to come around to the start and do another focus on the OT. If this is yet another mix, I may consider dropping the game. RS was such a promising start, but for a fan like me, they just haven't delivered on the promise of that. I don't expect them to ignore the EU or the prequels, or even to downplay them, but if AvE is a mix again, it's going to feel like the OT is being really marginalized, and that's the big draw for me.

Bounty hunters was Mostly Fringe and mostly OT.
I think 65% of the set was fringe, and loads and loads of those were movie inspired. 38 of the total set was fringe ( 63%) out of those 38 figures, 23 or 38% of the figures from BH were from the movies, mostly OT(mostly ANH and RTJ Cantina and Jabba), only 18 were EU or just genetic, of some sort from the fringe.

So in all honesty i expect the Fringe to be small in this set (i hope it is small). While i Say there hasn't been a set since the realease of the Republic and Septs that hasn't had them in it, it has been very small in BH, most of them where the Huges, all of the Septs and the Republic were Huge in BH. Champions the set before got Alot of Republic 19, but just 4 Septs, and only 4 rebel figs and 6 Imps, with 6 Fringe, for 39 of the 60 figs or 65% for a new faction set, only 35% of that set was the new factions/era.

I expect something more like that for A&E, but with a different slant, Minor mix, but concentrating on the OT instead of introducing a new faction, with 60-70% of the set being OT, Say 40-45 figures, with 18-20/18-20/5-10 for Reb/Imp/Fringe.
Fringe is Really really covered, espically after BH, and it has fluctuated a lot from just 6 in CotF, 20 in U, 13 in RoS, 11 in CS, to 20 in RS. I hope they follow some past trends and drop the Fringe to the 5 ish mark, after all the fringe from BH, they won't exclude it, but i hope it doesn't predominate in this set. But RS is i think a special case. it was the first set, they only had 2 factions so it had to kind of be large, it doesn't "need it" now, other than to get some cool figures.

I kind of hope they drop the Republic in A&E, all togheter, i wouldn't mind a few Septs, more Vong, or some other factions, but they now have 9 factions to deal with, and while Collectors may want to have all OT, they can't completly ignore the Skirmish, they have to do a fine ballance of the different target groups.
I think 65% give or take 5, even up to 75% but i don't think it will top 75%, and that "65ish%" of the figures will be OT Rebels Imps, with the possiblity of a few OT fringe (but loads were covered recently so i just hope it isn't a large chunck of them CotF the precedign set had a small number and i think that would be could for fringe here, a small number) and the the rest of the set will be a few random figures from other factions just to keep skirmish and RPG players happy that's 36-42(maybe 45) figures of OT goodness, enough to not Marginialize it but enough to give every target something, but not make any one 100% happy.

Like D&D minis they have to milk the figures for a while if they want the line to continue, you can't drop all the must have monsters in one set... so we have to wait for the Hoth Han (which is annoying me rather have Hoth Han then Stormtrooper Han. We have Leia, Luke, Rebel commander, and two types of Hothies.... I want my Han (chewiee is chewiee with out a droid on his back any work ;) but a snowy one would be cool :) )
