I know we have seen a number of creative ways of modifying minis into a seated position in the "Cool Photos" section of this forum.

That being said, for all of us without the skill, time or patience to accomplish similar feats, I ask two questions...

1) Is there a market (need) for minis in sitting and seated positions?

2) Is there anyone on this forum aware of any such minis being either available or being planned for a future release?

Anyway, I thought this topic deserved a separate thread.

I for one, would most likely get doubles of any such sets to ensure variety while also allowing for larger crowd setups.

Thoughts?

I think there is a specialty market out there for seated minis, but I wouldn't like to wager on the relative size of that market. Not only positioned for a chair or bench, but also kneeling; "Indian style"; and reclining (legs out straight, as if seated on the ground against a tree or wall).

I'm curious whether a seated mini should be sculpted in a chair or on a stool, or free-seated without any support.

I know there are some few seated minis available with sets designed for tavern interiors, but I couldn't name them offhand.

However, I would like to see a line of seated adventurers -- a rogue leaning back in his chair, a cleric sitting up straight in his seat, an armored fighter perched on a stool, a wizard seated on a floating cushion, and so forth.

I don't think it'll happen, but I'd also favor a line that matched up seated and standing figures. Practically, this allows the players and the GM to distinguish which characters are ready for battle, and which are in a relaxed state -- who is near a table, and who is at a table.

There's a company called "Mithril Miniatures" that produced(produces?) them back in the 80's. I was fortunate enough to purchase several of them back then.

You can still find some of these on eBay with a bit of searching. They're perfectly suited for tavern settings.
See this picture and the ones before and just after for reference: www.purgatorio.com/malachais_cohort/sits-c4-041.html

Regarding your question as to whether there's a market for these kinds of minis, that depends on what your definition of a "market" is. I know that I can probably count at least a couple of dozen people between these forums and my own personal friends that would love to see more of those types of minis, but that wouldn't be enough to support the sculpting and manufacturing process required to produce a suitable range of them.

Have a look at the eBay seller "mouldsandminis" -- he usually has a ton of Mithril Miniatures for sale.

Good luck!

FYI

There is a peasant in a sitting position in the Mega Minis "Peasant on Wagon" mini.

Great character for placing on furniture in tavern setups.

(It is metal and unpainted).

Thanks GS,

I'm actually considering getting some of these and replacing the upper sections with some (cut) peasant minis.

Again, after the DF pre-orders.
