I know I was going on about some signs to go with the MB Sets...

Well, I found some AWESOME signs from Rack ham, entitled "Shop Signs".

The pack includes three unique signs, and each one is of an interesting shape and design.

Although I'm still on the lookout for more signs (of different and/or generic design to compliment these); As I include the above mentioned signs within my village/town setups, I am confident that the signage will never look repetitive throughout.

Has anyone found any other good sign minis out there?

These are great! There's a tavern or brewery sign, an armorer's sign, and a barber or tailor's sign. Very nice.

Another option is to prowl the jewelry notions section of the craft shop to look for little charms that might be in the right scale. Very fine chain can be used to hang the charms from an improvised beam.

Also consider shields. One shield can be painted with a symbol representing the business you want, then glued to the outside wall of the shop. Alternatively, paint two shields and mount them back to back on a jewelry piece that allows you to hang them from the aforementioned chains.

Finally, remember that a sign isn't always a hanging shingle. Sometimes it is an example of your wares positioned outside your workshop. A wagonner (wainwright) might have a wagon wheel set in the ground in front of his shop. A blacksmith (whose shop doesn't actually face the street) might have an old anvil outside. Stonemasons might have a stone carving (a headstone, or a gargoyle, or a milestone) out front. And so on.

I feel like one of those Peanuts cartoons where Charlie Brown sends Lucy flying backwards with a loud "THAT'S IT!!"

Those signs are freakin' PERFECT!

I've always been torn on Rackham. Some of their stuff strikes me as overly busy, overly cyber-extreemz updates to classic fantasy icons. Plus, even their best figures depend a LOT on great paint jobs -- the few times I've picked some up, they've ended up some of my least favorite minis, because what I did with them just didn't end up all that impressive. Plus, on top of all that, the minis tend to be so thin and wiry that, on top of being difficult to paint, they just don't look right with my huge Reaper/GW/DDM collection. They just feel out of scale, with their spindly little arms etc.

HOWEVER -- some of their stuff is undeniably great, and these signs are just stunning. They not only look great, they will work PERFECTLY with a DF-designed township. 2 of the 3 signs don't require mounting, so just placing MBS and regular DF dungeon buildings with strategic DF floors to suggest streets, alleys and plazas -- and hey, presto, add some signs and you've got all you need!

And 3 is actually the perfect amount, too. I've got 2 MBS sets, and that combined with the amount of table space I typically have to work with -- it means I really only have room for 4 or 5 buildings at most (the MBS corners are really what determines what I can do, especially if I want a 3-story building). Give 3 of them signs, and it works out perfectly!

Man, it really is going to be amazing how much variety I'll have available to me now -- well, technically, I already have it, but those signs will seal the deal. Still -- MBS, DoE, dungeon stuff, SF stuff, caverns... there's so many ways to set up my DF now!

& jackattack--thanks for posting that link! I had completely forgotten about those Rackham signs. I actually had that page bookmarked awhile back in my "things to buy" bookmarks folder! (yes--I have one of those... I'm such a geek!).

I actually made a sign out of balsa, basswood, and jewelry chain for my MBS set. Painted it up with some standard hobby paints and drilled a very small hole in a floor piece of the MBS. I stuck a small length of a paperclip that I snipped in the bottom of the sign post and stuck that in the hole I drilled in the MBS floor piece. Here's a pic:

Invincibleoverlord did something like this too in one of his setups. Check out this link and go to the 10th picture down: www.dwarvenforge.com/dwarvenforums/viewtopic.php?id=1487

The rest of the scenery sets from Cadwallon (Rackham's urban RPG miniature game) are very nice. I'm going to have to pick some up, as the budget allows.

The old Mordheim sets from GW were also nice, but I'm going to try my hand at making the scenery.

Got my signs today! Woo-hoo! Along with some wicked Confrontation minis -- I'll post pics of them when they're all painted up. The signs are just perfect for my town, though I wish they gave us three posts for the three signs -- being able to choose which signs to use is nice, but it also means you end up with an extra, and I don't want to mount it permanently to some DF. Maybe I'll get some HA molds for it. Still, I don't want it permanently attached to ANYTHING, since I want to be able to use it wherever I'm inclined....

I think the idea is to get you to buy two sets, to have four posts and six signs.

You only need one scissor sign, so you can double up on the beer sign OR the shield with the filigree. Paint them different colors to differentiate, or paint the repeat the same and put one sign at either end of the building.

I thought about getting another sign set, actually. But I don't know -- I really don't need THAT many signs, though I'm sure I'd enjoy them and find a use for them. Still, I want to see if I can come up with a way of using the extra sign without having to accumulate even more. I could just use a wooden skewer, I think, if I based it right... It wouldn't look as nice as the others, but it wouldn't really have to...
