Just a side note about Harbinger -- that was the very first set, and is now one of hte hardest to find figures from. The other sets have a few "rare", expensive figures, but Harbinger is loaded with insane "collector's item" figures now.

Still, DDM has wisely included stable iconic things like orcs, goblins, elves, dwarves in just about every set. They try to make it possible to find what you need in currently available sets, without having to go digging through OOP things. I mean, for generic things like "I need orcs" or "I need skeletons," that is. If you have your heart set on the Tiefling Fighter or Umber Hulk from Harbinger, welcome to eBay! ;)

Try Harbinger as a search term on ebay.com and on ebay.co.uk.

On the first one - 270 hits which look like DDM - on the second one - not a single one as far as I can tell !!!

Maybe you can get DDM minis you want on E-Bay US - as I said before - on e-Bay UK I couldn't find a single harbinger DDM - nor a single kobold DDM - nor a single orc (but I only checked the top 100 listings - as there are loads of orcs on ebay.uk - just no DDM ones as far as I can tell.

A fact that I should probably mention that I discovered today. GAMA is in April, not March. They moved it back this year due to a conflicting convention that is also held in Vegas. I know one of the members of the board and clarified this today. This explains why Reaper may be holding off on pictures and such to make a big splash at GAMA.

Therefore, the announcement doesn't appear to be as hasty as I first took it if they are timing everything for GAMA (like they should do if they want to make a ton of dealer sales).

Those prices (for painted minis, plastic or otherwise) seem pretty damned reasonable--particularly the multi-figure packs. Unless you were really bargain hunting on eBay, you couldn't get painted metal that cheaply, and even then you'd have to toss in the price of shipping!

If the quality is as good as DDM and the supply sufficient, then I would agree that the prices are reasonable.

Hate to say it but even at those prices they aren't getting any of my money in the first set. I have More than enough Skeletons and Orcs than i know what to do with, (and kobolds for that matter). Even if the "trolls" are along the lines of the #2416, 2488 or 2542 Cave Troll, i don't need any Trolls. Mabe just maybe the 2832: Ogre Chieftain, but even then i generally have enough Ogres becuase Wotc puts one out, in about every or every other set. some times U, and those are not too pricey.

So far nothing that they are producing has wowed me.

Ghengis,

You can never have too many orcs... ;)

I agree though, it is too bad they didn't focus on something like drow or races DDM are light on.

All

I'm surprised not to hear anyone saying - I have enough of these thanks to DF miniatures.

Here is my take on it:

For gaming at my own home I have enough DF skeletons as well as Orcs.

But depending how good the paint job and the poses are as well as how durable they are I'm still tempted. The reason is my Ork Mordheim army. While I have used (and still use) DF orks I regard them as not ideal. They are too fragile to be transported without care. Taking them from a display - putting them careful in a box and driving 1 mile to a friend or a club was enough to cause breakage of a bow ar an arm and especially the axe snaps of very easily.
All in all I have at least 4 broken orks. Yes - I invested in a proper carry case since this has happened. Still - while I think the DF orks look great they are not as stable as I would love them to be.

And painting - well - I still have various orks but doubt I will paint them up all too soon. Maybe one or two leaders. Therefore for Mordheim it looks like quite tempting - and yes - the Cave troll as well. The DDM wood troll looks stupid and is too small for my taste. No - my warband still lacks a Troll - but I'm saving shards to buy one as soon as possible.

Off course - this means I will be interested in some gobbos at a later stage as well.

The skeletons

Well - not at the moment. But if they add a few zombies, a vampire etc. so that I could buy a painted mordheim wargang - yep - I should be interested.

What if they are a true 25mm scale (unlike WoTC DDM minis which are sufferring from scale creep) and so fit much better into our beloved DF setups?

Thod: so you're a Mordheim player as well, eh? I haven't played in years, but I loved the game. I chose my warbands not on their ability to fight or win, but for their visual appeal. I played Possessed and Skaven.

On an interesting note regarding WotC's D&D minis, WotC has stated that no set will be officially out of production, just "out of stock." Thus, they may put out more Harbinger, etc., as they feel the need dictates.
