Maybe another time. I'm ocassionally (every second year approx) in Boston or Groton CT - at least the most likely place for me to go on business trip.

Some recommendations would be quite good. I've just booked my flights and not yet a clue what to do in February in Boston. And maybe there is even time to meet up for a drink. I can check where I actually will stay. I think it's actually on the Cambridge site.

Thod--don't know much about Boston except it sounds like they have a trigger finger mayor and swat team there. Don't leave your cell phone or PDA laying around anywhere in public. ;-}~

Yes, yes, yes, please don't bring any Mooninites with you!

Anyhoo, there are three basic gaming places to check out --

1) Compleat Strategist, on Mass Ave, right past Newbury St. This place has a kind of creepy, cluttered vibe, not helped at all by the old dude customer who never seems to leave the place and wheezes incoherently constantly. Decent selection of games, and they have a TON of Reaper stuff -- Dark Heaven and Warlord.

2) Pandemonium Books and Games -- in Central Sq (the Cambridge area). Good sci-fi and fantasy book store, decent minis selection downstairs, lots of games going on relatively frequently.

3) Your Move Games -- Davis Sq (again, Cambridge area). Small, but lots of GW stuff and games going on very often. I am personally boycotting them because a friend of mine was once the manager and got pushed out.

4) GW Store in Harvard Sq. Yes, the evil enemy. But they have wicked gaming tables and, if you DO want GW stuff, it's here. Of course, you're coming from the UK, so....

5) Hobby Bunker -- a trickier place to get to, in Malden (off the Orange line, but easier to drive there, if you have a car of course) Massive selection of varieties of things. Good Reaper selection, good GW selection, tons of more obscure company's stuff like J&P and lots of 1:32 wargaming stuff, Conte, Frontline, Forces of Valor, 21CT. If you like military wargaming, this is THE place. The diorama materials alone make me weep -- bunkers and ships and trenches and....

I'll see what my schedule is, if I'm around, maybe we can get a drink in Harvard Sq. somewhere.

That's funny. I used to live in Malden and I walked by there (actual behind when I walked from the T to my house) but I never went in.

I'll be in Boston / Nashua NH on Feb 4th-19th on business. Oddly enough, I was going to post a request for good game stores to visit tonight!

If there are any open games in need of a dragon slayer, let me know.

Any recommendations on good food or pubs to visit?

I've already found my location for Superbowl Sunday. I'm that drunk dude with a Fridge jersey and an old boom box playing the Super Bowl shuffle each Bear's score :)

Thanks for the list of places to go. I will need to have a closer look in the next week when I´m back to work and can check where I stay. I think to remember I even have somewhere still an old map of Boston.

Last time I was there I got completely and utterly lost. I had a hired car from the airport. Took one wrong turn and ended up on the wrong site of the water (is it a river ?). So instead of Cambridge I was in Boston.

I check the map, find the street name - and plan my way accordingly. What took me ages to figure out was that the identical streetnames - just in different order - did exist on the other site as well. I felt quite stupid after I finally asked someone why I tended to get lost again and again and my map seemed to wrong.

And in regard to GW - I don´t mind. Actually I found some good selection of DF once in a GW store in Santa Fe. I had ordered my Fantasy Floor Set to A Santa Fe address - just to figure out I could have picked it up as well just walking 10 minutes from the hotel to the next plaza.

Thod, I know your pain. The streets in Boston are very confusing. Nice city though... very quaint.

Thod;

You found DF in a GW store?
And the manager didn't get fired the next day? WHOA!!!! Major Announcement!!!
GW has ALWAYS been (in MY experience) EXTREMELY proprietary in their marketing; the thought of allowing ANYONE ELSE'S products in their store has always been anathema to them, at least in the US.
Only recently have I ever heard a GW employ say - in public, while wearing GW identification - something GOOD about a non-GW gaming product. And it WAS about DF; the guy actually admitted that he LIKES DF stuff!

They revived me five minutes later.

See ya!

I printed out all your directions. Thanks - not sure yet where I will end up - but at least I have directions to choose from. I stay at the Hotel Commonwealth, 500 Commonwealth Avenue. Seems the Boston site. You can leave messages for Jens Loesel in case you want to meet up for a drink. I will arrive Saturday evening. I will be for formal dinner on Tuesday/Wednesday evenings.
