Do you have a link L??? I tried to load the one you sent but just keeps loading. Maybe the site is down now. LOL. I have some stuff up there but am depressed as to how it rates. Like Kradlo says they are very critical on that site but I still like it.

The site is www.coolminiornot.com. I check it daily, and routinely save pictures of the better minis as inspiration. The browse engine lets you sort by type (fantasy, sci-fi, steampunk, etc.), manufacturer, painter, etc.

I post there as thomasgrable, L as Law. By all means, check out the site, and I'd love it if you reviewed our minis and posted your comments. Feedback is alway welcome.

I just had an idea pop into my head for a paint scheme. It would use a figure with a cape.

1.) Prime as usual, preferrably a primer that would work well with a metallic first layer.
2.) First coat - full metallic silver or gold on all non-skin areas.
3.) Ink - such as Citadel inks - in either a purple, green, red, or blue tint. Everywhere except flesh. Heavy enough to flood-fill crevices and folds but be very light over highlights.
4.) Drybrush highlight with either the metallic or a very light grey.
5.) Flesh, eyes and other details.

Whatcha think, guys? Sound cool or what?
If anyone tries this one, let me know how it turns out. I'm going to look for one to do for my grand-nephew; he's 11 and wants to get into D&D gaming, since he saw my minis and DF. His brother wants in too, but at 7, I think he's a little young - especially for some of MY games!

See ya!

One thing to keep in mind with ink washes is that it's better to thin them with a mix of water with Future Floor Finish (generally 20-30% Future). This helps to break up the adhesion of the water, allowing it to flow more smoothly into the crevices of a miniature for shading.

Wow, I'd love to see that LOTR army -- I had a huge amount of stuff at one point, but it's been packed away for awhile now. Ah well. Did you do the GW stuff, or the Mithril ones? Or another?
GW...the new stuff...though I had some older LoTRs stuff from elsewhere (including some old citidel minis) - and then I improvised with some other minis (as various Southron types hadn't been released yet when we did the battle...I've since purchased a bunch more..but haven't painited any new ones lately). All in boxes now - may have some pics of the minis & the (cheesy) layout we used. I'll have to check.

Thanks for the encouragement -- I do agree with you, which is why I deliberately keep bases neutral. If anything, I assume they should match the DF material as closely as possible, though the MBS kinda threw me off in that regard! D'oh!

L

Oh i didn't have pictures at the time, but do you mean something like this i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5/GhengisSka/Mold%20stuff/P2030006.jpg ?I had the same idea and have been working on some for myself for a while now. I still have to Do MBS as well, it kind of through me off as well ;) .

Pretty easy, made a negative of the top of the floor, then from that made a positive that was stuck to a base.

Dandy bases! I may have to try that as an alternative to sculpting fresh ones for every mini.

Hey, Stefan, maybe you guys could sell cast resin bases to match DF floors. I know I'd pick some up (my preference is for round bases).

I was actually planning on doing that for myself some time this week, but if the DF crew make them... well i'll stop ;).

I prefer round as well, why i made 4 each of them.
