Yes, the old favorite fantasy board game is coming back in october! Read more on Black Industries homepage. It is a game I really enjoy and one of the best news this year!

I like Talisman, ever since the old days. We used to cheer "Toad, toad, toad, toad," whenever anyone would meet the Enchantress, and howl with glee if a "1" came up on the die.

I think I even killed a wolf while transformed into a toad; luck was on my side. But that darned farmer had the wickedest pitchfork, and killed me more times that I can remember.

I'd love to get a set of the minis for Talisman that GW made. I have the limited edition Confrontation toad (it came with Babayagob), so I could use that for the toad.

Talisman was the first game I ever translated! I got the game as a birthday present in 1985, and when Target Games got the opportunity to do a Swedish edition two years later I was the only one at the company who knew anything about the game, and naturally, I was quite enthusiastic about it.

Silly fact about the Swedish edition:

The original translations for Storm River and Mountains of Fire were Trollb├Ącken and Brandbergen - litterally Trollcreek and Firemountain. The other editor didn't have anything to say about the names, being from Gothenburg, but the rest of the crew screamed and hollered when they saw what I had tried to push through... Being from Stockholm they immediately recognised the names, as Trollb├Ącken and Brandbergen are two of Stockholm's southern suburbs! :-)

Brandbergen remains, though, accompanied by Stormfloden - which is a literal translation of Storm River...

I'm going to see what the new edition looks like right away! Thanks for the tip, Papa Troll!

I'm kind of excited about this release but I just heard some "rumors" about the mechanics of the game. Some folks I paint with at my FLGS said that they read an early review (if that's possible?) and it didn't sound to swell. Again, this is one of those, "I heard from some folks" sort of things that I cannot corroborate, but if anybody knows of any sources where this has been reviewed, please do share!

Dante,
Out of curiosity, what did they say about the mechanics not being too good?

Is the game a totally new relaunch? Or will it still tie in with the original?

Thanks for the fun facts Willypold! The 2nd edition miniatures are really lovely, they also work well for rpg use. I have collected a lot of them but it would be very nice to have the pirate and the wizard toads!

Hey PapaTroll,

Thanks for the head's up on the new Talisman! NICE!

I'm another one that has all 3 editions of this game; I enjoyed it that much.

Dante, if you find out any info (good or bad), please pass it on. I tried doing a web-search for new info on the new release and came up empty-handed. Thanks man!

Talisman was one of the best games GW ever came out with.
I am not sure if I will pick up 4th Edition; 3rd Edition was the best of the lot.
If GW has messed with the mechanics, that is not a good sign.

Ghost--will do. I've been wanting to get a copy of this for ages but with what they're going for on eBay... no way. I may just pick up the new release when it comes out.

Bear_Trap--have you played Fury of Dracula? I have the original version but haven't played it in about 3 years or so. Some friends at my FLGS tried the new one and mentioned a few changes that GW did to the new version that were "silly" and "screwed the game up". I'll be damned if I can remember what they were--I was running demo games for a charity benefit, but that's another example of a game that was re-released and changed for the worst.

I'm sorry I'm of no concrete help on these with specifics. The majority of my time is spent running my home-brew RPG and painting figures and scratch building terrain.

The good news is that we're doing a "Meet & Greet" tomorrow with a bunch of new folks that have joined our local online gaming forum--one of the groups is called the Madison Dorks. They specialize in all things related to board games. That's who I'm tapping for info on the new Talisman. I'll keep you posted!

Dante - you made me smile when you mentioned 'The Fury of Dracula' - we were playing this while we were at school and we nick named it 'The Futility of Dracula' as we once played a game that lasted about 6 hours with no conclusion!!!

Is Dracula in London? No... Is he in Berlin?? No...... Is he in Vienna???? No.... etc etc
The players were fficient at catching and killing Dracula's spawned vampires but could never catch the beggar himself!

We never played it again after that although the memory of that game still makes me laugh all these years later.

Dave :) :)
