I just wondered if any forum users are planning to visit Essen, Germany, for the Spiel games fair next month. I'll be there on the Thursday and Friday. Any of you seasoned campaigners have any advice about how to make the most of my trip?

How far from Essen to Munich?
Oktoberfest has been moved to September, due to weather patterns.

See ya!

All

I will be there this year again - I guess Thursday and Friday. To reach me - leave a message the the KSK stall (a PBeM zine) - they should still know Thod there - at least the oldtimers around.

And I guess I qualify as an oldtimer in regard to Essen. I need to check it up - but I've been there for every single year apart one for at least 20 years.

Would be great to arrange some meeting ahead of time with other DF enthusiast. I need to check with my wife how the 'kids-duties' are this year before I'm able to commit myself to a fixed date / time.

So what do I recommend ?? It depends on your interest and your time.

Reserve one day just for strolling around. The hall with fantasy of course will be the main attraction for all members here. But take the time and visit all halls. Sometimes you find related stalls tucked away somewhere else. For example some dice stall on the second level last year or terrain which was somewhere else.

If you are there for longer as one day - reserve some time to play a game with one of the developers. I did a Dwarven Dig with the guys from KODT. And one year I nearly lost my lift home back to the UK when I elimiated our driver in a pretty nasty manner in a game of Dragonlords - the extension. He was drooling over the game for two days and had arranged a game for four of us.

To cut the story short - I got nastily attacked. I could have retaliated and prolonged the game or kicked my friend out of the game (and ensure a save win). He was upset for weeks ...

A shame that Stefan is no longer around. Essen was where I bought my first DF 5 years ago directly from Stefan.

Look forward meeting as many of you as possible
