I have a set of 1"x2" lucite dowels that I use to elevate minis or counters that are "in flight". The drawback is that I can't put another mini directly underneath it.

Does anybody have an alternate method?

Ideally, I guess I'd like a 2"x6" rectangle of lucite or plexiglass, bent to form a "U" shape that I could place on its side like a " [ " -- that would give me a 2"x2" base, a clear "wall" on one side, and a second 2"x2" surface at a height of 2". Anybody know of a product like that, or how I could get something like that made on the cheap?

we tend to use the dice boxes like from chessex, becuase you can put them over figures etc. But since my wizard was the last one to fly alot and i haven't played him in over a year we haven't done much flying anymore.

to get it made try... www.litkoaero.com/ Litko Aerosystems from stuff i have read they will do custom orders, i know they do it on bases etc, they might be able to make it, don't know if it would be "cheap" though....

I'm taking a break from pounding my head on my desk to thank you for pointing out the Cheesex dice box solution.

We too use the Chessex dice boxes for flying. Things still get crowded on the DF field so we have also just put the mini on the Chessex box, put it to the side and use a flat counter on the map depicting position. Height is marked on the vinyl mat that covers the gaming table.

I use the transparent cilinders from Mage Knight 2.0 to make the large figures fly. For the rest, I use the flying bases from GW. I put bases on both sides of the stick, and cut the remaining stick, so I can put figures (medium or small if you use D&D minis) on the top of the whole thing. You can stack some of them to get different heights with quite good stability.

This ways always have that same problem: you cannot put other figures below the flying ones...

Hope it helps.

I thought this was covered somewhere here but a really interesting idea I saw posted was:
Take one of those three prong spacers you find in pizza boxes, the ones that keep the lid from touching the top of the pizza. Then get stiring straws (the small firm kind that are still circular, not flattened). Cut the straws to desired lenght, slid on to the prongs and you have a pretty decent platform that doesn't get in the way as much as most other methods.
