Music can help games: My favorite top 3 "Adventure" CD's to play while gaming:

1) Indiana Jones Soundtrack: All of them, Great heroic stuff.

2) Star Wars Soundtracks: All - John Wiliams da man!

3) Bladerunner Soundtrack - Spooky stuff....

Anybody else use music to set mood?

Here are a few of the soundtracks we usually use for fantasy role playing. I personally like to avoid using the really well known ones, like Conan and the Lord of the Rings because the moods change so often and abruptly.

The Last of the Mohicans (possibly my favorite)

The 13th Warrior

Sleepy Hollow

Gladiator

1492 - Conquest of Paradise

The Pirates of the Caribbean

Conan the Barbarian (only rarely, but it's fun to get the fighters going at the beginning of a battle)

Legend (it's almost too chaotic though)

The Lord of the Rings (all three)

For Sci-Fi games I'll use just about any modern day music, but have a few soundtracks that do the trick too.

Star Wars (any of them)

Resident Evil

Dune

Blade Runner

Hackers

The Matrix

and even a few of the CD's from the list above.

"Killing is wrong. And bad.
There should be a new, stronger word for killing.
Like badwrong, or badong. Yes, killing is badong.
From this moment, I will stand for the opposite of killing, gnodab."

Don't use it myself. With 7-8 gamers at the table it is hard enough to hear. I use to though with a smaller group. Had fun watching the players faces when all the demons sang "We will, we will ROCK YOU!!!"

2) Prince ("This is what it sounds like when Orc's Die.....")

3) Bee Gee's ("More...then a monster too me.....more then a monster...")

Sorry - It's Friday.............. :D

I used to be a big proponent of music during gaming but listening to the Conan The Barbarian soundtrack over and over just got tedious. And too much of the three Lord of the Rings soundtracks are "light" and "airy" to really fit nicely with a tramp through the grim underworld that is defined by our 'forge!

Plus there's the constant "turn around, hit play or skip forward" (either on the deck itself or on the remote) when you want to find that one perfect song. And a laptop on the table - as I know by experience - is too cumbersome. So audio through that isn't a good solution.

As I've gamed over the years, I've just decided that the 'round the game ambient sound is the way to go, personally.

I Already Put a Few CD titles in another Post (Setting the Mood?)... But the Point More than anything is Not to Have it So Loud as To Make it hard to Pay Attention... Any "Good" Music Played Quietly in the Back Ground Seems to Help Over All "Mood" But Having a Few Kewl Sampled FX Sounds Can be Excellent... (I Used to Have this Key Chain Noise Maker, that Had Breaking Glass, Machine-gun, Phaser and Some Sort of Siren Sounding Thing... Oh and an Explosion too... It actually Had about 8 Sounds but those are the Ones I Really Remember)... Wish I Still had the Keychain thing...

And Thor,

I Really Liked that Tune 'When Orcs Cry'... Off of the 'Putrid Rain' Album Right? Dark Prince I Think...
