as i has the choice to get some cool dungeon terrain (it was around 2003),
i had the choice of HA and DF. Both had enough products out to choose from.

I chose DF simply cause the following reasons:
- durability
- no more time to invest
- storage boxes

I paint miniatures nearly every day and its fun for me, and i build tabletop
terrain for wargames, that shoudl be enough.

DF is no cheap product, yes but for me its worth the money.

yes YC, you are not the only person out there near death waiting for a Master Maze sewer system
Near death?

I'm afraid that reports of my near death have been greatly near-exaggerated.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by that. Care to clarify?

Okay, not near death, but it sometimes sounds like you are gasping out your last (final) wish sometimes.
As you signature says, you ARE the champion of the sewer Master Maze.
So you should sound that way down to your last breath, yes? ;)
Now with Tudor Master Maze you just might get your sewer in three years or so.
Best wishes!

I just want the Science Fiction Master Maze brought up to viability. :D
It is not too much to ask for really.

Nowhere near my final breath, thanks. Hopefully on my deathbed, I'll have the wherewithal to make my last words "There is another Skywalker," but hopefully that won't be for a good long time. Weeks, at least.

Waitaminute...you're supporting Sci-Fi Mastermaze? Since when? ;)

That's the trouble with RF -- he is so cautious and ironic in expressing his opinion, you never know where he stands on any issue!

Do you want your leg back now?
We've probably pulled it off by now, along with your chain being yanked.

But you DO know it's all in fun.

Guys, I don't think he's going to smile for us; we may have hurt his feelings.

I love this.
People who can joke with me without worrying that I am some homicidal maniac like some people have decided to characterize me as.
I really do appreciate that folks.

Some people, to validate their personal philosophies and such, have to dehumanize their apparent opponents (people or objects) to feel better about themselves, just like jackattack pointed out in his posting earlier in this thread about some of the anti-Master Maze folks around.
jackattack, that was really well worded and presented; it explains a lot of behavior for all of us.

...went over to Paizo to read the thread and was struck by the absolute lack of maturity in some posters...

...but I do have a little theory about the vehemence. It goes like this...

In reality everyone really LOVES Dwarven Forge and would be totally THRILLED to have a ton of it, but then, when people see the price tag they react in two major ways.

The DF buyers:

These people give in to their love of DF and either bring out the credit card to reel off the numbers right away, or start saving up and possibly contemplates not sending the kids to college...

The DF bashers:

These people realize that their love of DF cannot be fulfilled to the extent of their heart's content, in which case they go into total denial. Instead of expressing their appreciation for this obvious perfection, they go the other route, and vehemently slam DF from the first moment, simply to protect their own wallets.

No other way of explaining this absolutely silly slamming of what is really just a... product... and not a life and death matter either...

Ok, product-wise DF is of course the Porsche of the gaming industry, but I think we all already agree on that... :-)

One of my group is always slagging DF off - saying how expensive it is, etc, but he's really keen on using it when the opportunity presents itself - which perhaps bears out what you're saying.

Medieval Buildings Set, Caverns x2, Cavernous Passages, Room and Passage, Deluxe Room, Octagonal Room, Narrow Passages, Advanced Builder, Wicked Additions I, Wicked Additions II, Traps I, Traps II, lots of individual pieces. I want Cavernous Rivers, and Cavernous Lakes, and Cavernous Ledges. Can you tell that I like caverns?

I do think that's a sound analysis of the phenomenon -- a lot of sour grapes out there.

It amazes me that people can be so aghast at the price of DF. When I first started using it, I suffered from "sticker shock" as well, but the thing is, I still get tons of use out of things I bought like six years ago! And with every new set, the collection just grows.

One thing I frequently tell people -- you don't have to buy it all at once! Your old sets aren't going to go bad, it isn't milk. You can keep them and slowly add on.

I agree with the people who like posting pics of smaller layouts just to remind everyone that this stuff is amazing even at smaller scales. I should dig out my pics from 2000, when I barely had anything -- I still loved putting stuff together! It's just that, with time, I've gotten more and more and now I have a large amount of stuff. But I didn't get it all at once!

In fact, my FLGS was sold OUT of the basic sets when I first started. My wife bought me the mermaid fountain, and I ended up picking up Wicked Additions II and the Ogre's Den and I think that was it. I had to cobble together what I could out of just those - and I did! And it looked great!

Ah well.

One thing that amazes me about the vehemence of the detractors is, lots of these guys have no qualms about dropping several hundred dollars to order CASES of new D&D minis every time a new series is released (every 3-4 months, I believe). We're all passionate about our hobbies and our chosen "addictions" and there's more than enough room for all ... "glass houses", "black pots and kettles" and all ...

And then add to the equation the longevity of their given game of choice. Dwarven Forge NEVER gets stale or boring. While I may tire of various game systems, my DF collection is ALWAYS there to adapt to most games I choose to play: D&D rpg, D&D skirmish, Warhammer RPG, Warhammer Quest, Descent, Hybrid, and even Mordheim and Necromunda ...
