I managed to order mine from Amazon when they were going for $37 each. I bought 3. 2 for play, and one to sell off at some point in the future.

As for why THIS particular dragon, it's an official D&D red dragon, which means there isn't a way to get something exactly like this somewhere else. Similar, yes, but not the same. I think sales will be around where they were for the SWM AT-AT. And I'm sure many will complain about it, but that's the way when it comes to all things DDM.

Remember also that these are limited edition figures. The collectability factor will help drive sales, too.

And, as one of the designers pointed out, it's the size of a 25 lb frozen turkey! Just the idea of having something that massive on the gaming table has a certain amount of appeal all on its own.

If you are bringing in two Colossal reds, I feel a little sad for your players, but at least the cremation services are free. My group tends to get up to about 12th - 13th level typically before the campaign ends and we start the next one.

I doubt I'd throw two at them at the same time, but it pays to be prepared.

Besides, two gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of illusion spells, mirror image and so on...

I could see two giant statues of red dragons spilling lava from the mouths, being quite the entrance to a fire giant lair. I did cave and order a Colossal Red myself from Amazon when they first came out. Now I am scared of receiving an e-mail saying that they are cancelling the order.

Yukon, how goes your WotDQ (digging Jim) and are you going to be at Gencon?

Jim, don't make me pull out my IT wife to use as a shield. Then again, you might understand her when she speaks about work. Besides your crafting discussions overwhelm my poor lil' head anyway. Sounds like you have quite the workshop.

I have all but one figure! I just need Meepo. There are a few more dupes I need, but once I get the little rare kobold, I'll have 'em all.

I'll be at GenCon Saturday and Sunday. You going?

Will -

It's amazing what you can do with a overfilled workbench and a BIG gaming table! That poor table gets used as a workbench as much as or more than it does for games, lately! (But ReBob and I have now got TWO levels of the Quest Deeps, PLUS the village, set up!)

I'll see you an IT wife and raise you one Info Miner wife. Sandy & I will be at GenCon late Friday to EARLY Sunday; hope to hook up for laughs and a round. YC, did you get that as well?

See ya!

My wife actually is sending me on Saturday and joining me with the kids (3.5 and 20 months now) on Sunday. Congrats on your collection, how many cases did you go with?

I bet many of us will cross paths admiring the DF mystery set and trying to figure out how to find gas money to get us back home.

Jim, what's your village set up like, any pics? Will this be a starting point for a campaign or what?

WillOH, are you going to get the 3.5 year old into any games at GenCon? Last year when I went it was the first time I was away from my son (3 now). I kept seeing so many parents with their kids there that it really made me want to take mine next year.

The only thing that I'd be concerned about is that he'd still be so young and would probably get bored after awhile. I was really enjoying being able to game from sunup till sundown. ;-}~

She does not have the attention span to do too much past candyland. Though she does like to play with DF and with the DDM huges. She had a purple worm eating several smaller minis. Brought a tear to my eye.

I know what you mean, WillOH. My 2 1/2 yr-old daughter really enjoys the giant bats and spiders from the Underdark set (they chase her Fisher Price "Little People" out of their castle). She's a pretty-in-pink girly-girl who loves shoes and shopping with mom but she's got some of dear-ole-dad in her, too !!! Just warms the heart. I'm sure she'll love the new Purple Worm ... as soon as I get one :)

Will,

No pics yet, but yes, it is the starting point for Xizzix's Quest, where the adventurers get suckered . . . er, intrigued in the quest.
It's Armorcast and Pegasus Hobbies buildings, along with a graveyard bought from a GW store (I think; I don't remember for sure), all painted and assembled, of course.

ReBob and I took pics of individual CR&W pieces so he can adapt them for use in TS, and at the same time, we did pics of some of the village buildings for the maps as well. We'll probably finish the building pics this weekend, and if they work in TS, I'll e-mail them to LoneStarr for inclusion in the next sets, and to pfworks for drafting as drawings.

See ya!

Definitely. We should all agree on a time to meet up at the Dwarven Forge booth. Saturday would be best for me.
