Oh, and my mom-in-law who has to be told how to play the game every time it's her turn in combat.

ROFL! I damn near spit out my Diet Coke on that one! OMG... too funny. I miss the group I had been gaming with for the past several years. I was *really* fortunate enough to meet three really cool guys that shared a lot of the same interests as I did--AND they had the same sense of humor so our games were a blast.

I've played at Cons where you make (what you think is) a harmless joke and one or two people get all bent out of shape and it just ruins the mood.

Dante,

No Doubt about it, Playing with New Folks is always a bit tricky... For my self I Encourage Humor as long as it stays within the moderate limits of Good Taste... (I.E. If Somebody is Stinky, don't Joke about Stinky, if There is a piece of Toilet Paper Stuck to my Shoe...PLEASE JOKE about it so that I at Least Know it's there)! Racial Slurs and Intentional Bullying will Piss me Off VERY Quickly, most anything else Goes... Well... At Least until Flirting between Players/Characters Gets in to Heavy Breathing... That's just plain Distracting...<Smirk>...

I am a very happy DM...
I have three really cool guys and two cool and pretty girls playing in my D&D Session...
the only thing that ticks me off sometimes is one player, who plays the "lone wolf" in the party... always making solo actions and "goes his own way"...

but he is a good roleplayer... *shrugs*

and as I loosely follow the 3.5 rules, powergaming is no point for me... I am DM, I am the Law, not some book...

...<Chuckle>...

Good Role-playing or No, When those "Lone Wolves" automatically make it a Point to Monkey Wrench the Game by Wandering away from the Groups Chosen Path...(Note I Said the Groups Chosen Path, I Do not Force the Characters to Follow my Script, I do not mind adjusting to their Choices), It can get frustrating... Mostly Because You Either end up with Two Things Happening at Once, (Which Leaves People Sitting around waiting for the Action to come back to them), or you end up having to Run Separate Sessions for Each different set of Situations... I Guess that is the Difference between a Cohesive Group... And... Well, One that is Not...<Grin>...

Guess what? He did it again...
Players: "We go left..."
Dwarf Player: "I go right"
Me: "Ooooookay..." describes location to both groups for the next minutes, plus explaining that icky nets start to become more and more present...

Group: "where is the Dwarf"

Me: (to the Dwarf) "Make a reflex save"

Dwarf: (rolls) "natural 1"

Me: (starts to grin evilly)

sometimes even the dice of my players love me :-D

That'll Learn 'em!

In Terms of Dice... Geesh... My Players have it Good... I Have the Most Incredible Luck with Dice Rolling, (Incredibly BAD luck), So my Players Get over on me a lot when things come down to dice rolls... Need a Programable Electronic Dice Roller...<EFG>... In All seriousness, does any one remember those Electronic Dice rollers? I seem to Recall a Cylindrical Gadget, (Resembled a Light Saber), that had a Rotating Ring for setting your "Die" type, (4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 20 & 100)... The Ring would Line up with a Series of LED's Four for a D4, Six for a D6 etc... I Think that the D100 Used the the D10 Some How... Anyway, I Remember Seeing a Couple at my FLGS in the Very early Eighties, Any One remember those?

Did a Search... Kept coming up with some Casino Locator Site... Did not see the Connection... Did Find a Couple of others out there though... Course If I wanted a Dice Roller that was Computer Based I can make one rather easily in Excel...<Grin>...

This would have been years ago, I think I had one in 1982. Check the dragon magazine archives, will be listed as one of thier advertizers thru the mid 80's.

I remember those Dragonbone ads in Dragon. It would have been in the early to mid 80's. Probably 82 to 84 -ish like tdaraa said.

Bad Player: One who drinks the DM's "after game" beers................

or the jokers who wish to name their PC's "Joe" and "Bob" and "Fred".

Why do they do that???? Why??? I have seen this for years with a hundred players..

I hate that.
