Right or Wrong, My Point was Simply that it is a Delicate Balance Between Content (Quantity, and Quality), and Price... DF Wants to Make a Profit of Somesort after all...

But I would Very much like to Hear Stefan and Jeffs Opinions About How they Make that Judgement Call... Is this System still Being Fine Tuned or Is there a Solid "Formula" in Place?

I wish there was a formula MLV; maybe Dwarven Forge is the exception to the rule.
Most smaller gaming companies, in my experience, work just off of what their costs are plus what they think the market can handle.
Now, since Stefan & Jeff do not use distributors or retailers, the costs should be down.
Additionally, they have seen what the market will bear since ~1997.
Moreover, on the other hand, they have also had seven years feedback probably filled with folks asking for the prices to be less than they were.

Do you feel MLV, that Dwarven Forge is no longer getting any profit off of the old Fantasy furnishings packs with them at $29?
I would have to disagree.
$40 was the suggested retail price, yes?
That had to generate profit for Dwarven Forge, a distributor and your FLGS, yes?
I will lay odds that even at the current price that DF is still earning at least a $5 profit on each packet MLV.
Why?
Almost all gaming items have a minimum 35% mark-up just at the FLGS level, let alone the mark-up that distributors put on it which is about 12% last I heard.
Why do you think that DF could afford to have the Sci-Fi sets at 50% off for almost a year and currently have them at 25% off suggested retail price (SRP) MLV?
They could break even or maybe make a tiny profit at 50% SRP off and still earn a healthy profit at 25% off SRP.

I am willing to Go out on a Limb and Say that Smaller Pieces are Probably Going to Cost More in the Long Run, because Each Piece that Has to Be "Handled" is Going to Add something to the Price... Larger Pieces are Easy to Paint though they may take a little Longer... (And this is Somthing that I Do Know a little About as I Have Worked on Staff for a Company that Painted Piece Meal Items)... So I Think that the 65-75 Piece Set that Rabid Fox is Talking about may well Cost more than the $200 Estimated above... I Do not say this simply to Argue, but rather to Point out that If it Were to Cost More Although I Might well Pay For it I Have My Doubts that Enough Others Would...
More discussion, not arguing.

Why then MLV did the fantasy furnishings packets not cost more than they did and do?
You are right that more "handling" raises the price, but I think at least one of the Fantasy packets, the treasure one, had quite a bit of "handling" MLV.
Additionally, the Fantasy packets all got put into that fancy peg packaging.

"Handling" in the United States and the United Kingdom can be very expensive like you said MLV.
My wife did painting for a miniature painting company that did historical wargaming figures; one unit of a dozen medieval mounted knights could run as much as much as $500 depending on the intricacy of the heraldry desired, and there were historical gamers who would pay this folks.
With Master Maze though we are talking about "handling" in the People's Republic of China; a whole different ball of wax than the US or UK - a much less expensive ball.

Having said that MLV, I must ask if you think the Fantasy packets were poorly done?
I ask because if you take one of each of the Fantasy packets and then another Medieval Furniture set (the packet with the fewest items), you are then looking at $160 SRP and 66 items.
If you take the Treasure and Magic Items Set (the packet with the most items), then you are looking at the same price, but with 75 items.

How then is a Sci-Fi Furnishings packet with an approximately equal number of items going to be 25+% more cost-wise when currently DF does not have to figure in the distributor's and FLGS's profit margins anymore and it will be in a more simple packaging?
I just do not see the conclusions that you see here MLV.

Now that Having Been Said, How Kewl would it be If There were Say 4 or 5 of the Sci-Fi Furnishings Sets (Command, Engineering Etc)... If They were Released Seperately Initially, but then Once the Molds were Alreadu In Existence, a Limited Edition HUGE set that Contained all of the Little Sets, with Perhaps a Few "Special" Extra Pieces thrown in as a Bonus?
If your foreboding in this matter is correct MLV, I then think this idea of yours is a winner.
It would be ~$450 dollars, but I think DF could do a run of 1,000 sets (which is what I believe is the minimum they can order of any set) and still sell all of them in a reasonable amount of time . . . maybe.

I have an additional concern MLV with the "extra" pieces.
If Dwarven Forge has done its job well, then what pieces will there be left to have as the incentive?
Will these be pieces for another room?

As you can tell, I still think the original set I proposed can work at a reasonable cost: <$200 based off of the prices of the Fantasy sets in their fancy packaging, the gaming supply situation for Dwarven Forge was when those sets came out and how Dwarven Forge is operating its supply system now.

Sorry, Been away for a Bit...

Many Questions asked, All Valid...

But I will Keep this Reply Quick...

I Loved the Furnishings, Though admittedly it took me a long time to Collect them as (Then), they were Close to the Price (Within $20), of being able to Purchase a Room set or Similar (Which Averaged $60)...

As the Prices have Come Down and as Individual Pieces have Become Available (And Gone on Sale), I Have Slowly Picked up Bits and Pieces, Yet I Still Have Not Purchased the Basic Dungeon Furnishings Set... And Before You Ask...<Chuckle>... It really is Because WK came out with their MUCH Cheaper Dungeon Accessories Line for MK... And I Have Snagged Up Plenty of Tables and Chairs that way... (Though I Would Love to Have the Torches which are No Longer Available Individually, because they have been out of Stock)...

As to the "Extra" Pieces for a LE run of all of the Would be Published Sci-Fi Furnishings... Well the Very Nature of the Industry Would Suggest that there will be Items that are a "Good Idea" but that will be Dropped in place of Using a "Better Idea" so as to Conserve Space in the Box etc... So I Do not Find it Difficult to Imagine that Something like that might not be Useable...

And were the Original Set You Propsed Possible and Healthy enough for DF to Make, Well, I Would Certainly Want One...<Grin>...

Ehhh, Hey everyone. I stopped getting notifications about new posts and kinda went astray. I like the furnishings that DF has made but have bought none of it. I think the reason is that I have sooooo much resin stuff from other companys that I have not painted yet. But I've been constantly inspired by the folks here so have been putting paint to primer for a few weeks. Soon I hope to post more pics of some furnishings I have painted. I keep thinking that if I paint some of my older stuff I can buy some of the new stuff and wont have to paint it.... BTW.....what is FRAG? Hey I would love for the Narrows to come back and would DEFINITLY get like two of the Sci Fi " or Cavern " narrows if it came out. Ebay has just put one up I think. I have three of these sets and a few pieses...Oye...I just like being able to put those funky pieces in room set ups. If they do come out with the Narrow set again they should put some advertising that you can and should do it to enhace your rooms.....

FRAG is a "Board Game" released by SJG that is Loosely Based on FPS like Doom or Quake...

Basically You have a Pawn (Cardboard, though you Can Substitute Minis), and some Simple Stats like Speed and Health... And You Run around Shooting the Other Players like You Would in a Multiplayer FPS, and Rack up a Specified Number of "Kills" to Win the Game... There are Spaces on the "Board" (A Nicely Drawn 2D Map that Comes with the Game), that Reflect Different "Power-ups" that you can Collect by Drawing Random Cards... The Cards Contain Weapon, Armour and Health Types of "Upgrades" as well as Some "Hack" Cards that Allow you to Take Extra Turns, Take a Double Move Etc...

There are a Bunch of Supplements out there, but I only Ever Purchased the Original Game... DF is GREAT for Making FRAG Maps, and Though I Have Not Done So Yet, I Would think that DoE would Really Work well for that Gothic Castle/Doom sort of Look...

FRAG is one of my favorite games. I have alot of favorites now that I think about it... That said you can play just for the sake of playing. Thats what me and my friend did. Set up the table and played for 4 hours straight. Not keeping score, just kickin ass ;) While others at the club jumped in and out all day. Fun times!

Woe is me :(
My DoE came, but I was layed off for December, meaning I couldnt pay the hefty taxes that came with crossing the boarder. Today I finally got some 'free' money, and its gone. Since I am to poor to drop another $50 for speedy shipping (or even the 30 for not so speedy shipping), I dont think i'm getting a den this time around.

Sigh.

The money, I hope, and not your DoE set MrThou is gone.

I sincerely hope that your situation betters.
I understand periods of money troubles; they have happened to me more times than I care to remember in the past.
Best wishes MrThou on your financial future.
