TOPIC: Ogre's Den
#703
Ogre's Den 10 Years, 6 Months ago
At first I was reluctant to get this Set because it looked single use and non-modular. But now I find I use it a lot in games.

- It is so fast and easy to toss it on the table to produce a small house.

- Try putting tiles around it and you get a nice inner kitchen area for a tavern.

- Another trick is to have Secret Doors leading out from behind the plastered walls or from inside the fireplace.

It's just so easy to use (and quick to set up and remove) I'm 100% for the modular systems, but have to admit I would buy another set like this one. (A fancy tapistry Room or a Tomb/Crypt would be great)

Any thoughts?

I picture the Crypt as being same size as Ogre Lair,

-- Back wall is a catacomb with exposed bones and such
-- Floor has scattered bones and leg-irons
-- Walls could have upright coffins with hanging bodys/bones.
-- Set includes 2 wooden coffins and a fancy stone one.

This could be used as a torture chamber, crypt, vampire lair, Undead hang-out etc, Classic nasty Dungeon room.

mmmmmmm........ I could use this!

2) Witch (Old woman w/broom - lottsa uses)
3) Banshee (Evil Female elf, right?)
4) Classic Zombie (You know - arms outstreached "aaahhherrrrrr!!!!!)
5) Barrow Wight (Big bloated corpse creature - yuck)
6) Ghostly Spirit (Kinda wispy figure - semi-ethereal - lotta smoke)
7) Devil (Classic red with cloven feet - Trident!!??)
8) Warlock (Male Evil-looking guy in black w/dagger)

Stefan was a guest at a convention that I was at recently. When I spoke with him he said that they were thinking of doing several stand alone rooms as limited edition pieces. Just something that he was thinking about but sounds cool to me.

The only disadvantages I see to rooms like the ogre's den is that it doesn't have grid marks for movement like other DF pieces, and the bearskin in the middle makes it hard to place minis.

If DF does more rooms like that, I'd suggest making sure the floors are gridded, and that anything that could be "in the way" of placing minis should be a separate removable part. ;)

It sure would be sweet if the Ogre's den fireplace was available as a long wall piece. (Like the fountain & demon portal)

The idea of limited ed. sets is.......disturbing....

Whild I use the ogre's den occasionally I would get much more use out of furnishings that would let me creat the room I want.

Furnishings for torture chambers, amories, temples etc would have lots more replay value for me and my gamers.

I spoke with stefan over dinner at origins last year, and i recall something about a prototype gladiator style arena. However (if something where to go into production), it woulda been very limited and very expensive. Personally i think everyone needs a gladiator arena ;)

I for one would like to see a Dragon's Lair! Piles of treasure, huge cave, with the walls extending higher than DF stuff usually does, perhaps curving in slightly to add that domed cave ceiling effect.

I'd bet such a treat would cost a pretty penny, though!
