I suppose I could -- but somehow finding a $50 set seems more convenient than ordering individual pieces. The thing is, I just don't have room for huge displays, so really one of each set is PLENTY for me. Since that includes 1 room set, 1 deluxe room set, 1 room and passage set, etc, it really does mean I have all the pieces I need. Occasionally I want another half-wall or half-corner, but the fact is, they'd sit around unused so often, I can't quite justify the expense.

Sounds like you have already made your priorities.

Where are you going to order the parts?
Do you not have a game store you make your purchases at?

It is interesting that as Much as I Complain about the Cost of Game Supplies, I Still sort of Favor a Larger Boxed Set, and I think it comes down to this, If I have to Buy Two or Three $50 sets to get the Same Quantity of Product as a $110 dollar set, then I Feel that I am Paying Three times as much for Packaging Materials as I would in a Single Set, therefore getting less for my Money...

Now... That having been Said, I also feel that For DF to Grow and Continue to Produce New Sets that I might like to add to my Collection, it was/Is important to address some of the Issues that may have hampered sales in the past, which MAY have included Ugly Boxes, that would take up a lot of Shelf Space... So if it takes Paying More for Packaging to Keep DF Healthy then i'll pay it... But It makes me Question rather the Days of the Bulky Sets are behind us...

What I want is the Sci-Fi Room and Alpha boxes split into individual pieces.
I can really use about 20 of the hatches & frames and maybe soon, a good number of the floor pieces and pillars.
You can only use so many of the ramps and only one, maybe two of the ridiculous floor access conduit openings.

What we really want here is furnishings!!!
Who cares about more passageways!!
We want control stations, free-standing computers, bunks, engineering power plants, weapons racks, tables & chairs, galleys, etc.

Big or small boxes - it does not really matter.
If the right pieces are not present, DF sales will go into the sub-basement!!

Yes!... A Sub-basement Set!...

All of those things have certainly been Discussed/Requested... Many have said that they would rather have New and Interesting Environments, than to have DF compete with other Companies that already Produce Furnishings, For myself I would enjoy seeing What kinds of Sculpts DF would Come up with...

I agree, we need more SF furnishings. The design DF went with is nicely generic, to allow for maximum flexibility, but without specific furnishings, it remains generic, and that's not a good thing. We want to make specific locations, not just "Sci-Fi area B."

I also think the piece distribution in the room set has some drawbacks. For basic room building, it's fine, it allows you to make a small room for every set you buy, once you have two or three you have a lot of options. HOWEVER, since you get three wall pieces for every six corner pieces, it quickly gets impossible to make a really large room. You have enough of everything but walls! The absence of long wall elements in Alpha or Beta is a problem for this reason (unlike the Fantasy sets, which provided a 6" long wall element rather quickly) I'd say the most common problem I face in designing sci-fi displays is the lack of wall pieces -- and as it currently stands, it isn't easy to fix, since the 2:1 ratio still favors corner pieces disproportionately.

What companies on this side of the pond do a decent set of Sci-Fi furnishings MLV. Are we now including paper 3D terrain? Even then, only WorldWorks as part of their Spaceworks set "First Light" has a sorta decent collection of interiors. Stones Edges has come up with a decent paper version of Sci-Fi MM, but not a decent set of interiors.

The British, across the pond, are the only ones trying and even then, they are cutting back. Ainsty had some really nice interior items, but I do not see them any more on their WEB page other than the bunks. Grendel's (Scotia-Grendel's now) items are not the best; they just look good in front of the near void of competition.

Whose efforts would DF be duplicating in doing a good set sci-fi furnishings MLV?

I agree with "L". What should be out in Beta should be Sci-Fi versions of all of the structural elements from Wicked Additions sets and from the AB set.

Gamma needs to be out at the same time or soon after with a serious assortment of sci-fi furnishings. These furnishings would be useable in all three MM categories - Sci-Fi, Cavern & Fantasy! Money earning potential is seriously there MLV.

Of Course Lots of Corners, mean Less Corridor is Needed, as Corridors can be Created by Placing Walls... However, To make that Argument Fly we Need 6" Walls to be Sold as Separate pieces...

Sorry But I will not allow myself to be "Dragged Into" a dispute on this Matter, just Commenting on Discussions that have Circulated in the Past... And Most likely Grendal would be the obvious Candidate, I Never Said Dink about Where it was Manufactured... As to Paper, I am not at all Against using ANY piece of Useful terrain, but I really like DF quality so "I" would welcome these things from DF... That Having Been Said, it would be Great if Wiz Kidz Got around to doing some Sci-Fi Sets like the Dungeon Accessory Sets... The Rubber so far has been Cheaper, and less Fragile, I Love the Heroes Accessory Sets too...

And as for Individual Pieces, Damn Skippy I want 'em! (Though DF has pretty much Squelched our Hopes on that Account)...

Not sure it is the case, but with the new SciFi sets being 50% off, it suggests at least a possibilty that they are not selling as well as hoped. I for one have 22 sets: 21 fantasy and 1 SciFi. Even our SciFi gamers are not realy crazy about using it. It has stayed in the box since purchase even though we play some SciFi d20.
