They have new walls, a Gift Shop and the Administration building also. It is still a very impressive display. When I want to see what it looked like in 1836 I just have to go out to Bracketville to see the 2/3rd's scale moc up they made for the John Wayne Alamo movie. It looks pretty much like the models linked to above, but you can stand on the walls and imagine the Mexican Army on the approach.

Shame on you Texan.
Or are you a transplant brvheart?
If you are a transplant, your error can be excused.

The town is Brackettville.
Mis-spelling it is like spelling Dalas, Houstone, or Amariyo these ways.
Being a half Texan myself and the fact that that town is connected to the Texan half of my family, I must protest the mis-spelling.
This especially so since the part of the family that spells it name "Bracket" has never been in Texas, let alone to the town, to the family "Brackett"'s knowledge.
There was even a split earlier than the "'t' v. 'tt'" crisis where the name was spelled "Brachet".
These two splits have caused much bad blood between the families literally for the last 800 years or so for the first split and then about 450 years for the second one.

Sorry for the family history lesson, but I do aim to be accurate in people, places and things.
There is also the matter of Texan pride to soothe.

The Windy City, eh?
I believe that city due to its "lovely" wind and other incliment weather conditions is in the Top 25 cities in the U.S.A. with the most suicides.
At least that is what I have heard.

Do you actually get called a "Yankee" much brvheart?
I have never heard a native Texan call someone from the North that.
The folks in Texas I heard use the term are not Texans, but Southerners from the East.
Texans do not consider themselves Southerners.
Those are the weak folks back East of Texas.
Texans are Texans, and then Americans.
They are NOT "southern".

I actually have never been called a Yankee by anyone but myself, but even after being in Texas for nearly 12 years now I often get treated as an outsider by many here in SA. San Antonio is a nice city, nice people but they are the clickiest people I have ever met.

Simple explanantion - you are not Texan.
Your children may be considered Texan, but the odds are against that.
Your grandchildren will be Texan as long as your children marry Texans.
That is just how it is.

One must remember that being Texan really means something around the world and that started long before L. Johnson or Bush, even before Howard Hughes or John Wayne.
If you are not Texan or even half Texan like myself, it is really hard to undestand or even for one of us to explain to a non-Texan.

There are more legends about and of Texans propagated around the world than in Texas.
Texans just sit back and smile.

Just a bunch of tall tales if ya ask me. My wife gets treated the same way and her great-great grandfather fought at the battle of San Jacinto. Tell her she isn't Texan. She's just not from South Texas.

I think I will stick with good ole Midwestern hospitality!

Just a bunch of tall tales, eh brvheart?
You had better keep that attitude quiet right now.
A Texan just received the Medal of Honor posthumously today which will cause the resurfacing of stories of the other Medals of Honor and Silver & Bronze Stars won by fellow Texans at great cost and sacrifice for their two republics.
Moreover, the great actions of the Rangers and other patriotic Texans will also be re-told.
The term "tall tale" is not one you should use in any Texan's hearing at the moment brvheart.
It will not be received well.

Did your wife's family "betray" Texas by moving away for money or other material reasons at any time in the last two to three generations?
Some Texans take that really hard and call it cowardice.
This is especially the attitude of Texans that stuck it out through the Dust Bowl problems down through the center of Texas last century.

Or did her family marry non-Texans most of the time in those generations?
Even marriage to a Tejano by a Texan is preferable to many anglo-Texan families than marriage to a non-Texan.
The same is true for a fair number of Tejano families as well.
At least in their minds, they are together, all citizens of the two republics.

Midwestern hospitality??
What Midwestern hospitality brvheart?
At least I never saw any genuine hospitality in Milwaukee, Chicago, Gary and the like.
Where was this hospitality - Joliet?
Sorry, I just never saw any when I was in the MidWest.
