I'm curious if any fellow addicts to these products use them for wargaming dungeon crawls as opposed to roleplaying uses. If so what system do you prefer to use? What systems lend themselves better to a square grid as opposed to hexgrids? Any thoughts or suggestions on the subject would be appreciated.

I've used my sci fi sets for some at-43 games. Just picked
up Dungeon Command (which I love ) and will probably make
a df map for that !

I've used my DF to play Dungeon Bowl, some sort of Blood Bowl variant.

Aside from rpg use, we mainly use DF for dungeon crawl type miniature games. The main system we use for dungeon crawling is the OOP TSR Battlesystem Skirmishes rules.

There are links to a couple of our games using Battlesystem Skirmishes and Dwarven Forge in >> this DF thread. <<

Like other table top wargames, Battlesystem uses inches/centimeters for movement, ranges, etc, but for simplicity, we usually just measure most things based on the DF 1" floor grid. I think one can easily substitute out the need for tape measures when using DF for most wargames and just use the floor grids for measuring.

Other wargames we have played or are planning to play using DF are Mordheim, Legends of the High Seas (Pirates), World War II skirmish (think secret German underground base), small unit action for W40K, pretty much anything will work fine.

Song of Blades and Heroes has a dungeon-delve supplement, Song of Gold and Darkness, and it actually doesn't use squares or hexes. I think what's great about SoGaD is that you really can build your own 3D dungeon and have a good game.

Here's a session report using 3D tiles!
ZOMG GIANT WOLF DEFENDING FOUNTAIN!
"The heroes once again found no treasure to reward their efforts."
"n the aftermath of the quest, the rogue recovers from his wounds, albeit having been looted for his gear while healing."
