Well known 1st Ed AD&D map in DF, Help pls 1 Year, 9 Months ago
Hi,

I am planning on running a campaign using 1st edition AD&D modules starting with… Village of Hommlet.

The plan is to play a series of modules from level 0 up, using DF to get the playing experience all us old people dreamed of 25 years ago when we were playing as poor teenagers.

The map shown is the best representation I could manage of the ruined moathouse.

I have not placed doors as they cover up the floor tile info.
I have highlighted 3 areas that if possible I’d like improving, so I am asking experienced DF’ers to cast eye over it and see if it can be made better.

The stairs down to the dungeon the tiles don’t quite fit as per module plan
The courtyard stairs have a gap either side, recommend possible gap filler piece?

The collapsed stairs to 1st floor is not at all like the module plan, anyone got any better solution?

I know all this sounds very nit-picky but I want to try and be as true to the original as the Late Mr Gygax would want it to be.

Nicely done on the map. I set up the moathouse as well for my group and tried to get as close to the original map as I could. Some of the rooms didn't work out exactly, but it was close enough that I just edited the room contents a bit and it worked fine.

I didn't do the entire courtyard in DF, which it looks like you are doing based on your map. I just used a brown printed grid map as the base to build on and to represent the dirt in the courtyard. I also didn't have the river set at the time but I like your idea of using the river to represent the moat.

Below are some pictures of how I set it up.

Gate and tower

Overview. I didn't build the moathouse on a raised base (although I probably would if I did it again), so my entrance stairway was just hand drawn and one dimentional.

The collapsed stairway up.

The front doors. I made the angled door pieces by cutting two of the diagonal wall pieces to hold the doors.

The adventurers exploring the hallway.

Good luck on your build and please post photos of what you come up with.

Thanks M4jumbo,

Your pictures have made me realise that I am still thinking in 2D.
The crenelation idea is cool.

The adventure starts in December, just got a few more bits of DF to buy 1st.

I will take some photos.
