Here's another possible storage option for DF and minis.

www.bestscrapbookshelf.com/

The cabinets are customizable (to a degree), and can be built with casters for in-home mobility. The footprint is conducive to use in smaller spaces.

The 2" drawers are actually 2-1/8" interior vertical depth.

I don't own any myself, so I have no personal anecdotes or expertise.

I just took a look at this product and DF pieces would probably fit in there. I just have a few concerns...

The sides of these cabinets are made of compressed wood and DF pieces are very heavy. I'm not sure if the structure would hold. I'm also not sure if the little wheels underneath would also be able to handle the weight. The size of standard drawer (12*13 inches) is quite small and would probably fit more the needs of scrapbookers and could perhaps hold only 1 or 2 DF Set. The triple large kit ($500) holds a volume of about one 5-drawer unit of a big flat file cabinet (the volume is distributed horizontally instead of vertically). I would suggest to aim for something cheaper (perhaps these same units second hand?).

What I like about it is they can be customized, such as to fit your collection of bigger dungeon decor or perhaps your McFarlane dragons. In my mind, it looks as though they would be a better fit to hold your not so heavy thousands of D&D plastic minis.

Each drawer will hold 30 standard 2"x2" pieces (flat, no stacking) and is rated to 5 pounds. The short cabinets are rated for 100 pounds. The tall cabinets will hold 19 drawers, or 95 pounds. The casters should be rated to hold the the cabinet and the 100 pounds the manufacturer expects will be in them.

It's not as efficient, but it also doesn't take up 12+ square feet of floor space. If you need to use your gaming space for other things, you can move them around much easier. This seems like a good option for those of us whose have smaller DF collections and limited floor space.
