I love Dwarven Forge, and just ordered the new Fantasy Starter set (for the diagonal floors and new doors mainly) and the new Fantasy Floor set to add to my growing number of DF sets. However, I also enjoy combining Dwarven Forge pieces with other pieces not made by Dwarven Forge to increase the variety of the settings for our D&D games. For example, I've used some of the Mage Knight traps or throne in a mostly Dwarven Forge dungeon, and have used bridges and other pieces made by other manufacturers. Along those lines, I was wondering if anyone has tried combining the new Miniature Building Authority castle walls or middle eastern wall set with Dwarven Forge pieces. Just curious, as I was considering buying some of that stuff and was wondering if it might be combined in any way with Dwarven Forge or if it doesn't really fit well together.

Zoro,

Hey there... And I Have Not, Even Seen the New MBA Castles... I Have However Used the MK stuff Extensively, Including their Castles, which are pretty Damn Lewl but do look Kinda Plastic Next to the DF stuff... I Have Also Incorporated the MBA Church and the Dock set into DF Set ups and they Look Great together... So I Should think that You would be Fine with their Castle Stuff as Well... And by all Means please Let us Know... They Look Pretty Interesting to me... Just Have Cash Going in other Directions at the Moment!

OK, I dub this My Official Most Vague and Least Helpful Response Ever:

Someone, I forget who, once posted a pic of a town under siege made with DF and, I'm pretty sure, MBA buildings.

That's right -- a person I can't recall posted pics I don't remember where which may or may not have included the things you're asking about.

Thanks, L!

Still, if you browse backwards through "Cool Photos" searching for something with town or siege or something similar in the title of the thread, you may get lucky.

Also, on the general topic, check out Tom's thread in Cool Pics called "25 new photos" or something along those lines. He's got pics of the Grendel Resin pieces, and I think they are probably my favorite non-DF dungeon scenery out there. (or, more accurately, non-DF ready-made scenery, to distinguish it from HA) (or, for highest degree of specificity, my favorite unpainted but already made dungeon scenery ever!)

If you look through the sci-fi pics I've posted, a lot of the non-DF stuff is from Grendel, like the consoles and the big cargo door and the big crane and things like that. If you look through Tom's pics, you'll see bookshelves and thrones and tables and all sorts of neat things, most of which are Grendel. I picked up some of it recently and I'm just finishing painting it up, and I'm REALLY happy with it. The MK stuff is nice, but this stuff is MUCH nicer. I'll probably post a review at some point.

I Think that the Post you are Referring to was Posted by Dante... It had a Great Backdrop of Mountains and Hills in the Background right?

That sounds right, actually. The hills were almost certainly in the pic, and now that you mention it, I think it was by Dante. It wasn't THAT long ago, either.

Actually, the picture I think you are referring to (I think the thread is called "A little seige") has some buildings from Pegasus Hobbies rather than from Miniature Building Authority and the walls are actually Dwarven Forge walls stacked together creatively to look more like city defensive walls. I don't know how tall the Miniature Building Authority castle walls and middleeastern walls are compared to Dwarven Forge walls. The Mage Knight castle walls are considerably taller, and do have some nice detail, though they are not at the same level as Dwarven Forge stuff.

Tom, your homepage with the links to the other sites is a great help in finding the items I want for rooms and caverns!

I also discovered that Grendel is producing the range of bunkers (the Kryomek Nexus series) that I already have a number of pieces for - and I have always wanted to find some more, but have been under the impression that they were no longer produced! :D
