TOPIC: I did it!

I did it! 3 Years ago
After about 2 years of peeking through the metaphorical store window I finally purchased my first set (rooms and passages). I want to thank Jericho for his posts getting me all excited. I Finished all of the christmas shopping for others early and decided to treat myself then told the girlfriend about my purchase and her reply was, " thank you for not asking me to buy you a castle for Christmas." lol

I havnt even received my order and can't wait to purchase my next set. I'll most likely be going the build-as-you-go method because I like having the active map on a swivel so the players can turn it around to suit their needs but at the same time I want to be able to be able to build any room/passage type/shape while the current room is being used. So I am thinking I'll either grab another one of these sets or the room set when it becomes available again. Then move into the cavern style sets.

I am very happy I decided to take this step with my gaming. I can't wait to get my Christmas order and start building.

Eric

P.s. why did the Bowie method go the way of the dinosaur?

Welcome to the addiction and congrats on your first purchase, the room and passage set is a great first purchase.

I think the bowtie went because it was an aesthetic issue it just looks better without them.

I can tell you that are really going to enjoy DF products. Even small/simple setups add many layers of depth to a gaming session.

And welcome to our forums.

Welcome! I hope your players appreciate the heaping platter of awesome you are about to serve them. I like your swivel idea- i may have to steal that notion from you!

My wife's nickname for DF is "dollhouses for dragons." One of my players always responds by saying something derogatory about sparkly vampires (aka twilight).

Make something idiot-proof and someone will just turn around and make a better idiot.

I feel like Krampus this year. Pound for pound, the amount of Dwarven Forge stuff I bought for myself outweighs everyone else's presents by about 10x. I don't think wrapping them up and putting my brother's name on the package will redeem me.

I must say, if you know someone who has wanted a Dwarven Forge set for a long time and only seen pics online, there are basically no other presents you can get them that will compare. When I opened the first box I purchased for myself I felt like I was 10 years old again. Had I opened up a Dwarven Forge set as a child on Christmas, not expecting it, it probably would have been one of those unforgettable moments (the only one I recall as a child was getting Sea Monkeys at around age 8 or 9.) (hint hint, guys, next year do some pre-Christmas PR aimed at women and you might empty your entire inventory.)

Ha! Great. Now one day when you are on an episode of Intervention about your Dwarven Forge addiction I am going to be labeled the instigator. Just kidding. I definitely do not regret my purchase - in fact I bought two more sets and they come today. You will love them!

I wish somebody (more skilled than I in setting DF stuff up) would do a thread about what you can do with a single set - I think that would help loads of folks who are sitting on the fence trying to decide to give a set or two a try.

The Beginner bash was a first attempt and also to get some traffic from different websites here. Once the European site is open I envision to revisit this.

The aim:

Build up a single mini-adventure with a single set.

Build up Terrors using
a) A single Room Set
b) A single DoE Room Set
c) A single RotA set
d) A single Cavern set
e) A single Ice Cavern set

For this I need to wait for Paizo to make it public available. Right now I have pre-access thanks to my Pathfinder Venture Captain. So I will try to show that you not only can run a small adventure with a single set but that you can use a variety of different ones to run it with just a little bit of refluff but otherwise keep everything as it is.

And at Salute 2012 in London I will likely use the Beginner Bash adventures on my demonstration table. So just be patient :)
