Re:Accesories other than DF 3 Years ago
I finished painting the Grendel tavern kitchen. Here it is. I would love to see other people's projects so I can improve. We should post stuff we finish in a thread or something. This one was a bit harder than the skull fountains - it makes me fear PSOM's bookshelves with all of the little detail (I think they will get here sometime this week).

Jericho,

You definitely have a talent for painting minis. How long have you been doing it? I've tried but found out I do not have the patience for it.

Congrats and HOW MUCH WOULD YOU SELL IT FOR? ;)

Awww shucks - surely you jest.

Well I am new to painting miniatures. That is my third "real" project over the last few weeks. I am not new to painting things in general though (just not things so small). I did a lot of research on how to paint miniature furniture and figures and I am kind of just testing out things I am learning.

As far as patience - I find it is a great way to unwind after work. Thanks for the compliment ;).

Hi Jericho,

You seem to be quite a fast and good painter! I don't believe there is already a thread upon user-painted dungeon decor although it would be nice. Right now, your best chance at seeing what amazing painted accessories many RPG enthusiasts have and have already posted pictures of is to look at all the posts within the "Cool photos of Dwarven Forge" section. There are many amazingly beautiful DF setups there containing many painted accessories. Do not hesitate to look at very old posts (I saw them all up to 5 years old and recommend everyone to do so...). Older posts are not less meaningful then recent ones. Also, I hope you know about most if not all of Invincible Overlord's setups.

dndgamer, I believe you should give some business to yansolo on ebay if you're giving up on painting yourself (You should not until you have at least tried a method called dry-brushing). Another possibility, if you really want pre-painted Grendel stuff, is: www.magneticdisplays.co.uk/

The pre-painted kitchen in only 11 pounds.

In my opinion, this (poor) paint job is only worth the 4 pounds it costs more as compared to the unpainted version (7 pounds).

The best primer is from Games Workshop. Some years back, we had a shortage on delivery and we tried out tons of alternatives. Still, none better than the one from GW and not just only because I work for them. Try reading some forums or take a look at cool-mini-or-not. This search will yield the same result.

I picked some primer up from GW and you are right about it being way better than the auto primers like Krylon. You don't have to spray as much and it dries with a smooth matte finish. Thanks for the tip Dwarf!

For years now I've always looked around at little parts and pieces, nik naks and odd shaped things at any store I go to. At first, nothing ever seems to stand out, but the more time you spend casually looking at these kinds of things, the more you start to see things that might work out. Plus... dive deep into random gaming forums for random websites and you can learn little things from other people. As soon as I figure out how to post pictures of things on here I will, but I have created some pretty awesome things myself. For instance, some basic colored glass beads from walmart can be glued together with a skinny tube style bead to make a potion. Make a couple different colors and styles and POW!...you got potions you can put on a bookshelf. In the sewing section they have some Iron On hemming material. It has a felt like material that you can separate from the paper backing, to use as spider webs. It looks pretty good too. Also, couple dollars at Michaels you can buy little wood barrels used to "Build your own Mission". Put some dark wood stain on them and they filter into your existing props quite nicely. Hirst Arts has some tutorials on how to make cool little trinkets too. Good luck, hope this helps

There is a guy local to me in Michigan who sells accessories and maps. His stuff by default is done in Hydrostone(like cement, but you can order resin models extra) and comes unpainted and in need of assembly. His prices are reasonable, and for those of us in the US who don't want to have to import it offers another option.

www.nalsworkshop.com/

Here are some of his stand alone buildings:

and his accessories:

Just another option. I've ordered a dice tower from him before and he was quick about getting it ready and out to me.

I have ordered from Naloomi before. Good stuff. Harneloot, painting terrain props is easy. Especially hydrostone. Primer black, paint it brown for tables etc, wipe off excess paint. If you want more detail you just get some cheap silver or gold to hit the accents on barrels and chests. No one pays much attention to these so I never bother drybrushing for added effect.

Hail and well met fellow Adventurers!
My name is Vlad and I want to thank you all for the gift you have given to me. This gift is Inspiration.Ive been buying sets from Dwarven Forge for a few years now and no single product gives the wow factor on a table like it.Here on the Forums Ive learned about countless products, Grendal and Thomarillion being among my favorites.Looking at the pictures that you have all posted of your set ups and pieces you have painted has been eye opening. You have all really raised the bar of what table top gaming can be.
I have recently painted some Grendal pieces and would like to share them with you.Thank you all once again.
