Rom and Passage set (and bowties) 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Noob question:

I was looking at the Room and Passage Set and, from the pictures, it appears that that set doesn't use bowties. Is that correct or have I missed something?

Thanks!

A couple of years back DF switched to sets without bowties. All sets are now "bowtie free". :)

This is why I would recommend not buying sets on ebay. I got stuck with a few sets early on in my collection that are bow tie because they weren't listed clearly. Welcome to the forums!

Ok, that was going to be my next question.

So, anything I order now will be minus the bowties. Does that go for all the sets?

Anything else a noob buyer should know?

Thanks.

ALL sets are now made without bowties. For stuff a noob should know, check the posts in the How Do I Use This Stuff section of the forums. Lots of good advice in there for a new entusiast.

If you look closely at a few items in the Individual Pieces section of the product pages, you'll see a few items that still have bowties. This is leftover stock of the discontinued Traps Sets.

2" Walls w/ Pits
L-Shaped Passage w/ 4 Traps Swinging Right
Set of 4 Floors w/ Pits
Swinging Spiked Log Trap
L-Shaped Passage w/ 4 Traps Swinging Left
Set of 2 Short Passages w/ Pits

All new stock comes bowtie-less.

Another noob and another question. So I've already got a few used sets on the way that require bow ties. I'm also placing a huge DF order on Monday. Are you saying that old sets with bowties won't work with the new bowtieless sets? Does the old sets match in coloring with the new dowtieless sets? Are the old sets you don't want to buy for whatever reason?

The only difference between the old sets with bowties and the new sets without bowties is presence or absence of the triangular slot for the bowtie connector. The sets are otherwise identical in every way.

Look under Accessories to find half-bowties, then search the forums for instructions on filling and painting the triangular slots (if you are so inclined).

There might be a slight color difference, but that's normal when you buy sets from different batches, and has nothing to do with the bowties. DF never changed the paint schemes for their sets when they retooled them to get rid of the bowties.
