TOPIC: Should I Skip Den of Evil

Should I Skip Den of Evil 3 Years, 7 Months ago
Looking to get re-started from scratch.

I see I missed my chance at the Den of Evil Room and Passages set.

I can still get the room sets, though.

I'd like to have some of that stuff to add a little flavor to the board, but would I be better off on focusing on getting started with the basics, then come back for the limited sets?

OR, should I grab what I can of the limited sets and backtrack later?

I think the best idea is to skip the limited sets at first since you never know when your ability to buy more sets might dry up.

If you intend to add a DoE room here and there, then I'd say go ahead and pick up two or three DoE Room sets and one or two DoE Wicked Additions. If you want to use DoE accessories to spice up a room, get a couple of DoE Wicked Additions.

If you want to do a set-up that is predominately DoE, I suggest you buy three or four DoE Room sets and two to four DoE Wicked Additions.

Given that we don't expect any new sets or restocks anytime in the foreseeable future (if ever), you should probably order them sooner than later.

But I wouldn't recommend buying them with the expectation that you will be able to buy the other (discontinued) set later, or that more DoE will be developed. All indications DF has given on these boards are that it won't happen soon, if at all.

Got it. Thanks!

Am I missing out on much with the Room and passage set being gone?

I'm assuming not really.

As I recall (all of my sets are still in storage until moving day) DoE Room & Passage is more or less a doppelganger set to the Classic Room & Passage dungeon set. It was the base set for DoE, and provided the best pieces to start a full-on dedicated DoE set-up complete with evil hallways. The set lacks the tentacles coming through the floors and the views of the void that the other sets feature.

I think that by not having the R&P set you miss out on the options to mix "standard" and "tentacle/void" pieces evenly, to put "standard" pieces in some areas and "t/v" pieces in others, and to replace standard pieces with t/v pieces during an adventure.

Jack,

How's 1 Room and Passage, 2 rooms, and 2 Wicked Addition sets sound?

I'm going to go with the basic set eventually, but want to have enough of this stuff to add onto the basic set and have some versatility before it disappears.

Thorshammer, that sounds like it will make a very solid initial setup.

You can find a DoE:R&P set on Ebay from time to time. You'll pay a premium for it since it is out of print, but I honestly think it is worth it. All things considered, 160-180 is an acceptable price imo.

2 room sets per 1 r&p is a good formula and the 2 DoE:Wicked Additions will supply you with plenty of ways to accessorize and expand the motif.
