TOPIC: second order

second order 4 Years, 2 Months ago
Alright, here is the deal.

As expected, i made my first order a couple of weeks ago and got hooked. I got a room set, a room & passage set and wicked addition 1.

Now, i wanted to order some more for Christmas, but i am unsure on what i should do. Keep in mind that i will have around 500$ to spare and would like to avoid duplicate for now.

So here is what i thought:

option 1
1x Ruins set
1x Narrow passage
1x wicked addition 2
1x Fantasy floor
1x Advanced builder 1
1x dungeon accessories

that would allow me to make more elaborate dungeons, so it would be nice.

option 2
1x Ruins set
1x Narrow passage
1x Fantasy floor
1x MBS
1x MBE
1x tavern accessories

that would give me a be more possiblities with dungeons as well as some city environment. My concern is that only 1 MBS won't be enough.

option 3
2x Cavern set
1x Cavernous passage
1x Cavernous Rivers and walls

that is a bit more expensive, but from what i read on the forums, i really need 2 cavern set to be able to do some nice layout. I might have gone for the cavernous chasm instead, but they are out of stock for now.

all three have appeal to me, but i am just not sure of what would be best. should i stick to one set (fantasy, MBS, cavern) for now, until i buy duplicate, or can i spread around a bit without losing too much.

just wanted some advice before i decided what to buy.

Thank you for your time

As a new customer just starting to buy sets, I think Option 1 and Option 3 are your best bets.

Option 1 will give you much more versatility with what you have. Another Room or Room & Passage set will give you more space overall, but your list will allow you to do more with a smaller in-game space.

Option 3 is a good first buy for Caverns. You'll be able to play in the environment immediately, and future Cavern purchases just make it better and better.

There is nothing wrong with Option 2, but I think you would want more than you are going to buy right now to get started. Consider tacking an MBS set onto other purchases; you'll have a village before you know it.

Welcome to the wonderful madness of DF!

I would suggest going with option three simply beacuse you mentioned not wanting to duplicate your purchases and considering that option three would open up a cavern and river setting it will compliment what you already have by providing a new environment to challenge your party.

Things to consider, at least they were for me, are: will you be building just a single encounter set-up at a time or an entire layout (cavern and/or dungeon). If the latter you will need multiple sets of the environment you're trying to build. I went with the latter and my group enjoys the set-ups much more. However, it cost me more money and time to set-up and put away...just thought I should mention that! :)

Good luck with your final decision and remember...eatiing penut butter & jelly sandwiches can get you 1-new set a month!!! ;)

Your first choice is good : you'll have enough pieces of dunjeon to make different set ups & bigger maps.

Medieval is nice but I think you should wait and enjoy/maximize your classic dunjeon line before. (with chairs, beds, torture rooms, treasure & artefacts, tables, fireplaces etc)
Same for the cavern ones : later.

Hi friend! welcome to the forums, another one bites the dust :-)

I won't tell about any of the options, but having read what you think I would like to add to what's been said that for a city environment 1 MBS is enough for a tavern, but not for a city or town. As I have the same problem (mostly I avoid to have duplicated sets) I have to say that 1 MBS (and 1 MBE if you can afford it) is good if you don't have any problem in using it combined with regular fantasy dungeon pieces, as I can tell it works fine for a city with stone buildings. The only issue here is the windows, but you can get those in the Wicked Addition 3, and in the Advanced Builder 2, so I would consider having them.

Other thing: if you want to focus on dungeon, the Wicked 2 and the floors are simply a must. This way you would have enough stuff for small cities and plenty for dungeons, but you would lack caverns. If you can wait for that, I think is good to keep in mind this ideas.

Greetings, and enjoy!

I would get a Wicked Editions II, a Ruins set, a Narrow Passage set
and a Midevil building set. This greatly expands your dungeons
as well as giving extra help in making vertical setups. One
MBS is enough to make a starting tavern and you can easily add to
it with some dungeons pieces if need be. With the rest of your
budget I would get single pieces like stairs, long passages, pillars
accesory sets or the runined entrance. These aren't always in stock
and are really useful. You can't really ever have too many stairs.
The entrance piece is really beautiful and it's a limited edition
piece I believe. Take advanatage of these peices while they are in stock.

The cavern sets are amazing so I couldnt blame you if you go that route
either.

Congratulations for you new addiction and I'm sorry. You really can't go
wrong with what ever you get.

Well, thanks for the many advice. Even though at fist i thought i would go with more dungeon pieces, now im considering switching to caverns (1 cavern, 1 passage, 1 river and walls) and get some dungeon too ( 1 narrow passage and 1 fantasy floor)

i don't know. there are too many cool sets. I need more money i think (don't we all?)

if anyone else can chip in, please do so. The more opinions the better. i still have one month before i order. and i've been playing with the tile system (which is great). that helps a lot.

thanks all
and glad to join the madness.
