Cavern pools fingerprints... 9 Years, 8 Months ago
Just got my first sets of DF today- Cavern set, Cavernous passage, room set, wicked additions 2, and a few other pieces. This stuff rocks!

I have noticed right away though that my fingers are leaving very obvious fingerprints on the resin pools of water....is it just not totally dried yet because it was wrapped in plastic? I'm afraid that this will be like glossy photos where the prints never come off...I haven't tried cleaning it yet in case I make it worse. Is there a way to clean them off, should I wait for it to dry? Am I being too wishful and this is just the inevitable with these and get over it?

thanks for any suggestions.....

SD Gamer,

Wow I Have Not Heard of this Problem before...If it is a Unique Flaw I Suggest Contacting DF Directly, they have Been VERY Acomodating in the past with Taking Care of Quality Issues with Their Products...

I had that too with my cavern set. I just thought that was normal.... Cleaned them off with mild solvants. My pools are still sticky though.

I Don't Have the Cavernous Passage Set so I Have Nothing to Compare to... But I Do not remember any Such Problems with my Regular Caverns... (Maybe I Did Not Stick my Fingers in the Pooles? But I Doubt that Cause I always "Explore" my New Toys...<Grin>...).

So what was the outcome with the sticky pools? Sounmds like to me that the resin was poorly mixed or something. Did anyone contact DF about it?

Yes mine are pretty Sticky as well... they are "Softer" than the Pools in the Cavern set... Almost tlike the Resin never quite dried? But it is a Minimal nuisance... I Just don't stick my Fingers in them...

I noticed the same thing when we got our first two sets. I touched one of the pools (I’m a kid I have to touch everything) and got my fingerprint in the resin pool. I just wet my finger with saliva and rubbed it down removing the print. Some time has pasted (months) and it’s no longer a problem the pools are completely dry. Oil Based products are weird and every once and a while do to conditions (In this case resin application at the factory) just wasn’t mixed right, there was a lot of humidity, or something along these lines. It should dry eventually, if not I’d contact Jeff and I’m sure he’d take care of the problem. 8)

Not any better in Texas either. I have the same problem, but have never worried about it. They are sticky and have never dried completely in nearly a year.

The new ones I just got seem to be better. Seems they either resolved the issue or they dry up in time.
