What parts to use for Cavern and Lake setup? 4 Years, 5 Months ago
I am thinking about my next order, I really like the cavernous river - but I do not yet have a cavern set (I hope it will be available again in the summer). Does the river set make any sense without the caverns? And, more importantly, can I somehow reasonably build someting like a cavern with a lake and river parts with 2 river sets, one lake expansion and maybe three single pieces of the lake shore? I know I will end up buying those ets, but I would hate owning them and then having no real use for them until I get my hands on the lake set and the cavern set.

We are getting the Cavern Set and the Cavernous Lake Set in stock in August.

That is good to know.

Then let me rephrase the question: how many sets do I need for a setup with a cavern with a lkae an adjacent river sections? Would this be OK:

2 x River
2 x Cavern
1 x Lake
1 x Lake Expansion?

I recommend that you either download the TileSystem software (a couple of threads down in this very section of the forums), or create your own virtual sets in Word (or any other program -- they don't have to be perfect, just representative enough that they make sense to you), and play around with them.

This will allow you to see how many of each set you want for your specific needs.

In general, though, the more stuff you have in the middle of a cavern set-up, the more Cavern Sets you will need to enclose that stuff with walls.

And if you want expanses of open water, don't forget that Open Water tiles may come back someday. Plan accordingly.

I'd say throw in another Cavern set. I have 5 and when I make a big set-up, those walls all get used. Numbers on the other sets seem about right (though I went in for a second Lake set).

Great advice about the Tilesystem program though.

5 cavern sets? Not bad...

I do not really know what I will "need" for my games, I just want to make sure that the number of sets is basicly usefull.

Thanks for the tip with the tile system, I will try that for toying around with my ideas.
