yes same here, i forgot to mention.

The pieces are unpacked in own containers, and sorted by type
so no long search needed. I simply grab into the corner/2" Wall/6"Walls box to pull out the basics,
reach for the mermaid fountain in the "specials" container, fill the gaps from the "floors" container
and i'm ready to put in some pre-sorted furniture and voila.
It takes around 5-10 Minutes for a fully dressed room, or 2-3 Minutes for an empty room (without dressing)
(but you must take into accout that i can remember the exact location of every part of df in every container).

Since we have 1-2 Fights in an evening the settig up ad hoc is no real problem, if you have more fights
prebuild encounter areas might help.

That definitely sounds quicker, but there is something really special (and satisfying!) about having seeing the whole dungeon crawl laid out before you in glorious Dwarven Forge!

I'm playing 4E right now, and there's this mathematical drive towards 5 encounters per night to keep the "level every 2 sessions" objective that we're using. Most of those encounters are fights. I've been distracted by 4E mechanics, Dwarven Forge, more minis than I'm used to having access to, and the effort to convert an old module to 4E play. So this campaign's gone way different from what I usually do.

But it is kind of nice to be able to get 5 fights in a single evening's play. I can remember 2nd & 3rd edition fights where 1 fight would be an ENTIRE session. Bleh.

Yes, there definitely is! I build my layouts in my basement, pack them up, and lay them out again. So I kind of get the glory twice. :)

It's been entertaining laying things out as we go, because the party doesn't know what's up next. And I'm getting pretty adept at using fronts and backs of pieces and winding things around. Part of the fun for me is trying to see how much useful space I can get out of the arrangement.

I had my uncle made a special furniture expecially for DF storage, so it's easy and fast to get the modules I need.

I love that piece!! Does your uncle take contracts? Ok, barring that, can you share the dimensions of it and the drawers?

I've always dreamed of building my "Game Table To Rule Them All" and I would use units like this to support the surface !!

BTW, the lion's head door-knocker pulls are the perfect hardware !!!

Bet you can't wait for the ABS2 set then!!!

Really great piece of furniture Crioux - but I think I'd need several to hold my whole collection!

Crioux i'm with Myrthe if we could get the sizes for that thing. It looks great I might have to end up getting something like that or if nothing else bookshelves to put them on.

Hi. I've found that the more time I put in before the game for setup, the quicker the game goes. Building as we go can be okay for a couple of encounters, but it won't work for longer gaming sessions. Not only does it take time to accurately set up rooms, but cleaning up all the DF pieces to make space for the next encounter can add that much more to the time.

What I've been doing recently that works pretty well is putting the rooms on wooden boards. I work near a furniture design company so they're always giving away pieces of various-sized boards (scrap that they'd otherwise throw away). I build the rooms on several boards and leave them in another room. When the players get to that room in-game, I put the board (or boards) on the table. Clean-up is fast because I just pull the board when they're done. I can still cover up parts that need to remain hidden with cardboard (or whatever).

With a little bit of planning I've been able to pre-build large dungeons and keep the game moving quickly. This is now the only way I play when I use DF.

You guys should try the "in pitch darkness with a single tea-light candle near the miniatures" method. You gotta have a secluded dimly lit table off to the side to keep character sheets, but it is so sweet! It is most especially cool in the caverns...

I finally got around to playing with the tile system. MAN! That thing is nice and helpful. Might take a little to get familiar with all it can do, but once you do. Look out.
Now when I goto stores i check things out in a whole different light. Thinking can i use this or modify this to work with DF. I'm becoming addicted.. Now I am patiently awaiting for the shipment to come in, so I can feed the hunger.

I like the idea with the tea light. Girlfriend has a few around i'll have to "burrow" for my games.

Thanks everyone for the help.
I do appreciate it.
