I was planning to set up a little siege with Master Maze stuff for the castle, but was looking for siege engines/catapult/ballista type stuff. I saw Mage Knight has a set like that. Has anyone here bought that or seen it up close? Are they decent looking? I know it won't look as good as DF stuff, but DF doesn't have siege stuff (yet).

I haven't tried the MK stuff yet, but Worldworks has a nice set of working catapults, etc. I think you can find some others at discount Hobby under Grendel.

If you don't mind working the toy angle, you can try finding a game called Crossbows and Catapults. All the pieces for which the game is named really work, though, so try not to accidentally hit your wife in the eye with one like I did.

(And, yes, we're still married. And, no, I will never live it down.)

I have the MK siege set. It's okay...you can pop them off the gay MK bases and put them on something better, or even not use bases with them.

I can only really use two of the four pieces, since 2 are cannons and I don't have them in my RPG world. But I might convert them to carts or wagons, and the catapult & ballista look nice.

Gredel stuff is always top notch, if you don't mind a little sanding and painting.

Yukon,

Was that the Game with the little Foam Balls for the Siege Ammo... And the Thin Plastic "Castle" walls?

MrMorden,

I really like all of the MK Castle stuff Especially the Castle walls and towers... And the Siege equipment is pretty useful... (Though I Have Not pulled them off the bases yet... I'm a pansy when it comes to trashing "Collectable" stuff...<Grin>...)

But about a year ago at Target, I found a cheesy set of toys put out by a discount company called 'double scoop fun' or something of that nature. It was a series of 99 cent toy bags that included unpainted vinal knights, archers and horses for medievil fun. What was neat about the set was there were two sets in particular...one of which was a seige set...that was of special interest. The seige set had a working catapault with 4 gray plastic boulders. The catapault, unlike the other toys in the set, was made of solid plastic, has wheels that roll and you can manually pres down an armature flinging 'boulders' at whatever. My wife and I had great fun launching them at one another the night we bought them.

These wonderful items are sized perfectly for 25-28mm scale and cost 99 cents each.

The other set had a series of conectible, thin stone walls and flags that make for nice fencing around home steads and farmhouses.

You might want to check your local target to see if they still carry these things. You'll find them in the 'discount toy' isle...meaning the isle where Target keeps their cheap, non namebrand toys. They might be buried under army men, that's where I found mine. I'll see If I can get a picture taken of the wonderful things for ya'll.

More like little plastic balls, but yeah. The walls have rubber bands that make the little figures pop up when they get hit.

Yukon,

Kewl... And I am a Big fan of Using Toys (Or other odds and ends), in new and unanticipated ways... Plastic Sandwich Trays (The Ones that your Tuna Fish Sandwich Comes in when you buy it from the Gas Station), Make Great Bunkers for instance... With a Little help from some Model Airplane or Ship parts...

Zoro,

I really do think the Siege Equipment would be a Good Buy if you Bought maybe Two sets? And of Course the Balista is a bit of a Fantasy Piece compared to the others, but they are all Kewl...
