Of course it's all a matter of what you value, and what you want to spend your money on .....

....some people like cars, they do not allways buy the cheapest most fuel efficient car...some folks will spend $5000-$20,000+ extra on a car that they desire....some people buy paintings, fur coats, boats, motorcycles, tickets for the family to a playoff game ($400+) etc, etc....think about playoff tickets, that's for only 3 hrs and then it's gone....Dinner for two with a great bottle of Wine $250.....MasterMaze will last you an entire Lifetime+.......Viewed from that perspective I really believe we offer a great value in the long run.

I've said it before, when we go out of business, our pieces will be priceless...there will never be another crazy company like ours...

Stefan -

WHY do you think, even though I haven't played a game of D&D, or even set up a dungeon, maze, or MBS in 3 YEARS!, I still buy DF every year?
It's ARTWORK, MAN!
Do you think for ONE MINUTE I'd spend this kind of money on JUNK? DF is HIGHLY Collectible - and will ONLY Appreciate in value, especially after you get tired of the game and shut down, some day.
I MAY NOT be buying AS MUCH as I did - but I ALWAYS BUY AT LEAST ONE SET of every set.

Thanks, big guy.

One of the things I love about Master Maze is the "oohs" and "aahs" I get from everyone when they see it. I have people lining up to play my D&D 4E game at the Meetup, in part because I do it with Master Maze.

It's what the cool kids are playing with!

I saw an ad for Dwarven Forge about 2 years ago. It really got me interested in gaming (for the 3rd time in my life).
Since then I have bought 62 full sets, excluding single pieces/ packs.
I probably spent just as much on 3rd party products (Armorcast, Ainsty, Tony C., Mountains of Heroscape etc.) as well.
I have also designed 6 MEGA games for conventions, sometimes inspired by DF product.
1 game I designed took up 384 square feet. (Star Wars: Battleforce).
Some people that know me suggest that I may have a problem with enthusiasm...

I have know idea what they are talking about???
I STILL NEED GAMMA, MBS AND Fantasy Floors!!!

BLAST;

Enthusiasm? YOU?
Nah!
Restraint, maybe. Rubber Room, certainly. But Enthusiasm, nope; you've got no problem with enthusiasm. You have ALL the enthusiasm you'll EVER NEED!!

My first year into DF, I ended up buying 30 sets on eBay...

Since then, I've gotten 2-3 of every new set.

No problem here...

thetang22, whatever Master Maze you purchase, it will be useful for years to come.
I only occassionally come to the DF forums, but your questions here got me to register because it is a very important issue when it comes to breaking into Master Maze purchases.
As you can tell from some of the responses you have received, one can choose to really get involved with the Master Maze terrain system, but that was a conscious choice.
Master Maze is no specialized black hole money pit so put aside those fears.

Personally, I have bought a few sets, mostly cut stone, and a few individual pieces, mostly cavern, but I did that over a ~15 year or so period.
Also, like some here, I bought nearly all my stuff before DF went direct so I avoided most of the curent S&H issues; I say "nearly all" because I cannot remember buying any since the Master Maze makers went direct, but I may be wrong.
With the cost of living these days though hitched to a desire to stay in business, I cannot imagine the Master Maze makers gouging us as far as S&H so rest your fears there.

The really important issue here thetang22 is that I have not bought any sets in the last ~4 years, but I can build whatever I want, within reason of course, or need for a game.
I may start buying Master Maze again thetang22, but that would only because a terrain piece I want for some gaming purpose finally has been released (certain cavern pieces) or if they do a new line of terrain I can use (different thread) and then I will buy what I can use and nothing more.

Master Maze is in no way like a CCG, CMG or whatever "collectable" game issue out there thetang22.
Yes, the word "collectable" gets thrown around here, but in the non-gaming sense; it is not being used in the fearmongering sense of the word that many gaming companies use these days.
Collectable here is the idea that you can buy this terrain now, and it will still be intact and usable 20+ years from now unless you purposely went out to destroy it.

thetang22, I cannot imagine one ever regretting the purchase of Master Maze in and of itself.
Some of the gamers getting into Master Maze may involve you with, sure, you can do without them, but that is true of any possible gaming purchase; it's certainly not exclusive in any fashion as to buying into a terrain line.
thetang22, set your own pace with Master Maze as you do with your other gaming purchases, and you will be enjoying it with some game or some other sort of display for years to some.

Best wishes in your purchasing decisions thetang22.
Please tell us what you decided and why.
You might see something the rest of us do not.

MLV and I were fortunate to buy in when DF was sold retail and the sets were less expensive for the most part than they are today. When we started the wife and I only intended to buy a few sets, 30 some odd set later bought on similar terms as MLV.... You can do some good stuff with 3-5 sets if you get the right ones and add on from there.
