Heya all

What exactly are the half walls, half corners, and extenders from the advanced builder set used for? I assume to extenders are for matching up wall pieces with corridor pieces? But I have no idea what the half pieces would be used for. Thanks.

Well, they can be used for anything. I primarily use them for two things:

1. Mainly, so a full-size door can be placed in a room that's 2x2. Instead of square_door_square, it's halfsquare_door_halfsquare. They can also be used alone with the small doors from the narrow passage set.

2. Also for ruins and ways of spicing up walls. Just having little mini-rooms off to the side, and so forth.

For the most part, I use them to increase flexibility. I can make small rooms, and put them in places rooms couldn't otherwise go, there wouldn't be enough space for a doorway.

I use the small doors whenever I can. They are more to scale with dungeon doors being 3' wide on average. Whoever heard of an 8' wide dungeon door? I have few complaints about DF, only that making them in China leads to inconsistencies in quality and color.

I Still Have not Purchased the ABS but I Was Curious myself as to What all might be Done with the Half Walls... I Baught a Set of Alcoves Separately, and I Love 'em, but they are A Little too Narrow for a Standard "Gap" Created by a 2" Floor Piece, so i sort of Assumed I Suppose that the Half Walls might Address that Issue... Do They?

I almost always use the small doors now, reserving the "standard" 10-foot doors for large applications. The ABS really helps in that regard.

And as mentioned above, it allows one to create 20x20 rooms, or extend a 10 foot hallway into a 20 foot hallway.

The 5 foot wide floor and wall sections also allow a room to be expanded by just one square.

(all measurements above are one square = 5 feet)

Shoe,

Do You Feel that the ABS Gives you Enough of these to Really Expand a Room? Oris it Kind of a "Taste" that will Not Satisfy until You Purchase an Extra Set of Extenders or Two?

By 20x20 Rooms You Mean with a Door in the Center of one wall Right? I Mean if we are Talking 1" = 5ft... Then 3 Corners and a Wall have always Given us 20x20 room yes? Just not a room with a Centered Door? And anyone have any Input on the Alcoves?

The alcoves are great! I use them all the time for closets, WC's, treasure rooms, etc. Comes in handy having 4 of them.

I tend to use pieces such as the half-wall corners as the doorway space for a room. I use the alcoves alot, and there are a couple pieces that work great at capping hallways. There's alot of variety in the sets, with the "half-walls", small doors, rounded alcoves, square alcoves, long hallways -- its a great toolbox for dungeon building.

If I only set up a room or two, for a specific encounter, I'm sure that I could get by with one set. But I like the pieces so much that I tend to use both of my AB sets when I build out a larger dungeon.

Mylordvoid -- yes - a 20x20 room with a hallway that enters in the center of one wall.

It Does in Fact Sound Like People Like their ABS...<Grin>... I Had Been Intending to Buy Individual Pieces (Such as The Alcoves which I Purchased at Dragon Two Years ago, Right as the ABS was Being Released I Think)... But Maybe I Ought to Go Ahead and Get the Set... As to The Alcoves, I Love them, but my Question was Really about rather there is a Way to use them where they actually Match up to the Walls, If I Set them up Facing a 2"x2" Floor with a 2" Wall Section on Either Side this Leaves a little bit of a incongruity in the way the "Edges" or Ends Match up... Or Don't as it were... So I Was Wondering if it Makes any Difference when You Use the Half Walls to Create the Gap for the Alcove?

It looks ok with a floor piece. I tend to use a narrow door with it which helps.
