My Dwarven Forge Product Review 7 Years, 6 Months ago
I guess I should first write something for those who have yet to buy their first sets of Dwarven Forge (DF) and may be skeptical about my motives. This post I am writing was unsolicited by the folks at DF or anyone else for that matter. I just felt like I should give a consumer's point of view on the pieces I bought, as I thought it might be helpful to some.

The order was placed on Feb 12, 2007 and it arrived at my door here on the west coast today, Feb 19, 2007. The packages all arrived in good condition. 5 boxes were placed inside of one larger box with adequate packing materials and were free of crushed corners, dents, etc.

My first order consisted of:
Den of Evil
Den of Evil (Wicked Additions)
4x6 Floor (2 of them)
Diagonal floor pieces

As I opened the first box, I was pleased to see that each piece was individually wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in its own fitted spot in styrofoam. I'd feel comfortable storing them for use in this condition.

Now, for the pieces themselves. I was under the impression from my (admittedly limited) reading of the product that they were made of resin and would be rubbery. Man, was I wrong. The resin used is very tough and stone-like. The pieces are definitely substantial! They were masterfully designed, molded and painted. Not only was there good detail to the top, the bottom was felted. That was a nice touch, I thought.

I would give the sets I bought top marks.

As for customer service, I called DF in the middle of last week for an update on my order, as I hadn't received an email telling me my order had shipped. I still haven't found it, but will take the company at its word that it probably got swallowed up by my Comcast spam filter. :) Anyway, the folks were very helpful and quick in getting me information on the order and estimated shipping date (the box came a day early!).

So, there's my quick little testimonial. My only concern now is trying to figure out how much to budget out of my next paycheck to pay for more :)

Hi Vonski !!

Welcome to the forums and to life as a Dwarven Forge collector !! It's a fun trip but be prepared to have extended, and sometimes volatile, negotiations with your wallet ;-) Once you really get into it, you'll be amazed just how tasty a diet of ramen noodles and water can be ;-)

Seriously, though, welcome. The guys at DF do an amazing job and keep us fans clamoring for more !! and more ... and more ... and more ...

I'm off to place my pre-orders for the new sets now ;-) C'mere wallet ... ohh wallet .... wallet? ... stop your whimpering ....get over here !!!!

Hello Vonski,

First off I want to welcome you. Next I want to warn you. As many others state here, DF is worse than a crack habit, but with no side effects. The only known cure is to have many long gaming sessions using your new found "love," ordering your next set, and then keeping us all upto date with what new and creative ways you are using your DF collection. I look forward to seeing your setups in the cool photos section.

Vonski,
Welcome to the 'habit'. Like you I have just joined the DF 'family', about the same time in fact. My first purchases were about the same time as the Wicked Additions release.

The forums are a fun place to hang, with lots of helpful hints and tips from everyone :)

Just be prepared to be very very broke in the near future as you try to build up the stash of DF :)

And you know the funny thing, we keep clamouring for more from DF............ :)

Thanks for all of the words of welcome! Our group will likely be using the sets we bought in battle situations only at this point. I don't know if anyone is familiar with the adventure, Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil, but it is a HUGE abandoned dwarven mine complex. It'd probably take up a square acre full of DF stuff to lay it all out :P

I'll try to take pics of the stuff we make though! Another guy in our group bought around $400 worth in addition to mine, so we're on our way to financial ruin. It's nice to know we have company though! If I don't reply to anymore forum chatter, it's because my funding went to more DF stuff and I decided not to pay my internet bill. Haha j/k :P

Oh, I'm also working on a foam board project for a campaign I'm going to run in a few months. Is anyone interested in seeing the pics, and is it cool to post non-DF stuff here in the cool photos section?

Vonski,

I ran Return to teh Temple of Elemental Evil with DF. IT WAS AWESOME!!! The cool thing is that you do not need to set it all up. I would preconfigu last weeks stopping point and this weeks next section and anything else the players did we would take 10 minute breaks why I changed teh setup. This method worked great until all of the players went ahead and got killed. :-(
Good Luck and again great to see another addict fall into the habit.
