OK.

I've played with DF stuff that belonged to my friend off and on for the past 2 years - he use to cart it over here (10 sets or so) and we'd use it in our game.

In November I finally decided to take the plunge and buy sets of my own. However, I told myself I only wanted the cavern sets. I purchased 10 cavern sets (3 Cavern, 3 passage, 2 lakes, 2 rivers). I was elated, almost giddy with delight! Yet, I couldn’t stop visiting the web-site and looking at the fantasy sets….

When an unexpectedly generous x-mas gift arrived, I spent it all on "regular" DF stuff (20 sets).

I have gone from none to 30 sets in 60 days and am having an absolutely awesome time playing with my beautiful toys – unwrapping them, setting up small dungeons, feeling their heft, adoring them - just like a big kid! I am happy. And I have cut myself off – no more DF buying for awhile!

Yet the Den calls to me…”Limited Edition” it says…..”Just one of each set…” it says….

Hmmmm….

Now I plan on getting the MBS with the second one when it comes out. But the Den? Should I get the Den too? I’m going to need yet another room if I get any more sets!

So, what do people think? Where does the Den rank in your pleasure & usefulness scale of DF sets? Is it a Can’t Live Without It set? Is it too “specialized” to be uber-usable? Can I make do with just one of each set using it as “flavor” in my normal Mastermaze setups? Is there going to be a 3rd DOE set?

I appreciate any thoughts.

Take Care everyone,

-JGF

I am also facing the same dilema about the DOE. A section of the Limited Edition description says something like "the molds will be broken after 1,500 are sold". I am just wondering how many sets remain out of 1,500?

The Den of Evil is a neat alternative to the normal dungeon set. The new DOE Wicked Additions would have convinced me if I didn't already have it. The fact that it's a limited edition also has merit - if you don't get it now, you may never get the chance down the road.

And after all, you only need one kidney...

Well, like the both of you, I've developed not only a love, but a NEED, for Dwarven Forge ;) That being said, in my mind, I NEED to get anything that I could to enhance my set-ups. Regardless if I don't use the DOE in every set-up, I have it in my arsenal to pull out when I want it. Being Limited, I decided to move on it sooner rather than later. Besides, I'd hate to have one of those "DOH !!! I should have ..." moments when the need arises and I don't have a set on-hand and they're all out of stock. But that's just me ... some people stock-pile food !!

BTW, I noticed that on the DF online store, when looking at the DoE, the maximum "quantity" that may be selected is 50. Does this mean that only 50 sets remain? Ahhhgg! I can't take it! I gotta have one! There was a big discussion about sets being "Limited Edition" , and sets being "Limited Run" a while back I believe.

I feel as do Myrthe and Dungeoneer do above - even if i don't use it terribly often, I want the possibility of using it....and since its limited edition....

ARRGGHH!!!!

Anyone else care to plug DOE and push us over the edge into buying?

Anyone want to buy a Kidney? ;)

have to admit, DoE was my first foray into DF stuff. Have always been interested in the stuff, but given the high price of shipping down under, have always held off until now. the limited nature of the DoE stuff, combined with the fantastic appearance has swayed me to the "Dark Side" :)

as to is it absolutely necessary, can't say, since I have yet to purchase regular DF stuff :) but it does look amazing!!

My impressions on den of evil.
Very cool, but I don't think you NEED this set if you've got the standard sets. It's pretty much the same as the R+P base set except with a cooler motif. That being said, if there were a DoE deluxe room set, I would have just bought twice the amount of DoE stuff and forgone the base sets.
Cheers,
Sam

Really? You'd be willing to go TOTALLY DOE if there were more pieces?

Thats a pretty strong recommendation!

DOE - I got two of the DOE sets and one of the DOE Wicked Additions sets. That pretty much means I can create a small area that is special in my dungeon. The price was so high that I wouldn't have gotten it if my players hadn't chipped in for almost 60% of the cost. It is an exquisite set and really sets the mood. I recommend it for those with a great base of Dwarven Forge. It is a nice "extra".
