Well, after years of playing with my friend's Dwarven Forge stuff, I finally decided to get some of my own in November. I thought I'd be happy with just the Cavern stuff, and picked up 2 of every flavor Cavern set. I said to myself I was more than happy with just these 8 cavern sets.

However....

Quite honestly, after seeing the pictures of set-ups people have made and posted here in the forums I was awed, inspired, and jealous! Today I received a surprise gift of $1000 from my in-laws....and...and - I took the real plunge, just like Sam500 just did!

Here's my order:

Deluxe Room Set $79.00 x 3
Wicked Additions #2 Set x 2
Wicked Additions Set x 2
Advanced Builder Set x 2
Room & Passage Set x 3
Cavern Set x 1
Fantasy Floor Set x 1
Diagonal 1/2 Floors (set of 8) x 2
Floor tile, 6" x 6" x 1 (all they had left!)

I really must thank the awesome DF cartographers here for creating and maintaining such a positive and welcoming sense of comraderie on these forums. You've helped inspire me to go from admirer to addicted participator!

I can't wait to lay out a huge dungeon for my gaming group!

Many Thanks!

Harneloot,

That is a GREAT selection!

And special congrats on picking up two of the Advanced Builders Sets. They will expand and enhance all of your other MM sets greatly.

Welcome to our growing ranks of merry addicts! I congratulate you on your purchase, and know you'll have many, many happy years playing with your Master Maze.

You made a great selection. Wereweasel is spot on about the Advanced Builder Set; you'll be very glad you got two sets.

Enjoy, and make sure to post pictures of your setups!

It was actually both your comments about that set in another thread that convinced me to get two Advanced Builder Sets - even though I'm not entirely sure exactly how they expand and enhance the other sets so much.

Can anyone comment on this, or do I just have to experiment?

What other sets are you getting besides ABS?

Harneloot,

ABS expands the structural capabilities of the dungeon sets; it allows half-walls, narrower rooms and REALLY narrow passages between rooms, instead of the narrow passages sets (now AWOL) or standard passages. There are some other goodies built into ABS, but it's been a while since I've opened it up and used it, so I don't remember what they are. MY big regret is that I only have ONE ABS, so I've been trying to justify some more instead of other goodies. Unfortunately, Hip National Bank sometimes says 'NO!' and I have to pay other bills.
YOU, on the other hand (OTOH) have shown the foresight to get two from the jump!

Have fun!

Yes I am Harneloot (knew the name rang a bell) I have been driven to this addiction also...there is a too long of wait between plastic sets...hahahaha

I'm unemployed right now at the moment (only have been for 2 weeks but have something lined up) so its limited cash ...give me a month or so and I'll dive in!!! :D

Now back to your regular thread.... lol

p.s. I started with the room/passage set, a set of stairs, 6x6 floor and a set of pillars
this round I did the advanced builder/a couple cavern pieces and another set of stairs.

Next could be the medieval set/building set... maybe in Feb. once I fix the income issue.

Harneloot,

As requested...

The potential benefits of using the various Advanced Builders Set pieces:

The extra three feet of 6" long passages will extend the reach of your passageways considerably.

Eight extra corners (when the 1/2 corner and 1/2 wall pieces are used together). This will not only allow you to make two addional rooms it will allow you to vary your layouts considerably -through offset passages.

Regular Passage End Pieces for your corridors and Narrow Ends for closets or cells.

The Alcoves will add so much variety to your rooms and corridors you won't believe it! These are my favorite tidbit, except for the U&L Stairs.

The extenders are quite useful as well, and will enable you create room dimensions exactly as you want them.

Honestly, I think you'll be extremely happy with your selection and I seriously doubt that you'll have any pieces collecting dust from underuse.

If you do get a M.B.S. Set I think you will be extremely impressed as well. The size and versatility of even one set will allow you to produce many various inns/buildings. Having more than one set, all the better. :D

Enjoy the sets, and the holidays.
