And slightly back on topic... ;)

I have been looking at some of his older stuff for a while now, an dwith some of these finally took the plunge on a few items. They showed up yesterday and while i haven't had a chance to paint any of them, i got to say i like the look of most of them pretty well.

The Command consules are nicely done, they to evoke a specific look, but i can't quit put my finger on it, more 70's-80's style almost star trek-ish or old Battle Star Galactica. Which is good so not every single planet/ship one enters has the Exact same look or tech.

So far i have steard away from Metal for scenery bits, but i purchased some of these, and i have to say i'm still mixed on metal for props/scenery. Some of them are nice (the Com/hacker port) but the chairs look to big, and are very heavy. I think i prefer resin.

Some may get used unpainted in the game tonight.

Additionally, I must say I was both impressed and terribly unimpressed with AW's "hover tank" prototype.
My very large disappointment was that it truly was not a hover tank at all but a grav tank.
There are way TOO few hover tanks out there; everybody seems to immediately jump from tracks to grav lifters.

(found this thread whilst google-ing "hover-tank" btw and thought i might drop in!)

Hehe - funny/ironic story with this:

I called it a grav-tank originally and was told in no uncertain terms that it wasn't one, sadly can't remember the link where i was given a 40 line technical on it!

Iirc their basic argument was that anything that was anti-grav (such as a grav-tank) would be able to fly, so why would it look like a tank, when really it would be a plane - the only sensible design for a grav-tank would be a flattened hull mounting a big gun, but it wouldn't look like a tank as we know it, more like a flattened aliens dropship, as any native tank design would be impractical for rapidly positioning the gun at height other than that just off the ground (declination of the gun barrel being a rather major issue almost as soon as you start moving up away from the ground: thus a "grav-tank" wouldn't look anything like a tank, because anything like a tank, that did anything other than hover just off the ground, would be useless).

So I caved and called it a 'hover tank': because its a tank, and it hovers just off the ground :D

I did think about "repulsor-lift tank" or something like that but it started sounding all star-warsy and jar-jar-binks flashed into my mind at which point the mental screaming started again with flashbacks of Episode I.

(Anyway its on hold atm as its re-mastered and we move metal caster, resin type, new moulds, more sci-fi stuff and all that new-year jazz... but i really want to get back and finish it off 'coz i like it - whatever it is!)

Gehngis - the chair is "too-scale" for a 28mm (toe to eye) so it will look big or small depending on the figure range, but its true 1/64, its just one of those oddities that some stuff at true scale looks odd, whilst over-scale and under-scale other items can look fine (like over-scale leaves can look fine, even though they're about 2-3 times too big for most leaves), mind you, its also a flight chair, so the head-rest is designed to be behind high up to. Had a smaller one also but it looked like a childs chair lol!

Its a bit of a no-win situation - so you just plunk for something and run with it... i've got some screen prints for the command desk now btw, let me know if you want some (throw me an email).

tvm all!

my favorite techie background i've ever read for "grav tanks" was from the old renegade legion stuff, from FASA. Tank hovers on a force field, and it's motive force is a drive which warps the local gravity field. put simply, if you want your tank to go forward, you warp the gravity field such that "down" is directly ahead of the tank, and it "falls" forward. Gravity as a motive force rather than a suspension, hence "grav tank"

AFAIC, the only Hover Tanks are from Hammers Slammers. Anything else is just electronics and force-fields.
Sorry guys, but a hovertank HOVERS on an air-cushion.

Just my 2 cents worth.

See ya!
