OK, the list of "wanted" stuff for 2007 is pretty well-established. SF furnishings, a water expansion set, a DoE expansion set, an MBS expansion set. Basically, everything we've gotten in the past year, we want expansions for -- plus more SF.

But I'm thinking -- once THAT has been done, once some of these lines have been rounded out and so forth, is there a direction we'd like to see taken for Dwarven Forge?

Sci-Fi fans -- what do you want to see, once a few sets of furnishings have been released?

a) More expansions for the SF line as is. Furnishings won't be enough to give us maximum utility for the sets we already own, for the line as it is. More is needed.

b) An alien-world environment, to expand SF the way caverns expanded fantasy. Some kind of "starter set" of an alien environment -- can be wilderness or urban environment, but something alien.

c) A grungier/cleaner SF environment. Something more appropriate for a Trek-style, clean Flash Gordon world, or something more appropriate for a Star Wars/Blade Runner/Aliens exposed-wiring, rust-covered dystopia. Either way, something OTHER than the current SF design. (similar to the MBS or DoE expansion for fantasy)

Fantasy fans -- what do WE want to see?

a) More expansions for newer sets -- DoE, Cavernous Water, MBS. More ways to use these pieces, the same way the basic dungeon set got two Wicked Additions sets, an Advanced Builder set, two Traps sets, etc.. . DoE and MBS in particular should get this treatment, and maybe a few more ways to use cavernous water sets would be nice (maybe furnishing releases like docks, boats, water beasties, etc)

b) More expansions for older sets -- dungeon stuff ain't over! And neither, for that matter, is cavern stuff. A Cavernous Expansion set, with more passage and regular cavern pieces to add variety to releases that are really old by this point. New cavern corners, new cavern walls, new transitional pieces, to spice up a display. Maybe some cavernous fountains or traps or portals.... And/or maybe a Wicked III for the dungeon set, with new neat stuff to add to the dungeon line. Let's not forget where it all began!

c) A completely NEW fantasy line -- sure, we've gotten two in the past 12 months and that DOUBLES what was previously available, but we're greedy! We want more above ground stuff, now that MBS has gotten us started! How about a Deluxe MBS set for more aristocratic dwellings? Clean white stone for castles and palaces, MARBLE even? Tapestries, stained glass windows -- cathedral materials? And how about we go FULL ON above-ground and make battlements and so forth, so we can make honest-to-goodness CASTLES out of Master Maze? The possibilities are endless -- now that MBS has taken us to the surface of the earth, it may not be enough to sate the need . . .

d) A variation on (c) above -- how about some mini-sets, like the $50 sets that were experimented with -- starter sets for things mentioned there, but not as elaborate as DoE or MBS or the Cavernous Water sets. Maybe just 6 basic walls, 4 corners, and a few floor pieces done in marble or stone block for castles or palaces -- buy the set enough times and you can do some neat stuff, but not a massive investment in yet another fantasy environment for DF? If it catches on, they can always do more...

Those are just some ideas -- not to mention my previous idea about some new accessory sets.

I'm just wondering where people think DF should go once we've seen some of our previous wishlist items show up....

I'd have to be the cavernous echo to almost every point that L has made above! In fact, I (and many of us) have been posting a lot of these desires in the "wish-list" section of this forum for some time now.
I'm not sure if anyone has seen our requests for future "dream-sets" or if anyone from DF even has time to look at that section very often, but I hope they don't get buried too deep. I'm looking for many of our ideas to some day (soon???) come to fruition.

Here's my top 10 list. I would be thrilled to get any 2 of these...

1) I'd love to see some rooms/passages with an "Egyptian-like" atmosphere. Possibly a treasure chamber rich with hieroglyphs and connecting mummy tomb with decorative sacarphogus(s) and obelisks...very cool. This could possibly be a tie-in for the Sci-Fi fans as well-- I'm thinking StarGate with the worm-hole portal, which leads me into...
2) I'd love to see a cool alternative for connecting all of your expansions together...something apart from the normal stairways or even passages. I have a custom built game table 6'x8' and it's still not BIG enough to connect it ALL together! How about some very cool looking "portals". I'm sure that the creative minds there could dream up a floor piece (or free-standing item for that matter) of a decorative portal that could be used where the dungeon dead-ends and you really don't want it to : ) (if that makes sense). That Den of Evil is way to cool to be able to gain access by a passage or staircase. It should be accessible only by "portal" and again this could be the "magical" teleportation variety or for the Sci-Fi fans, one appearing to be a work of science for teleporting.
3) This one might be "out there", but I'm 45 and you can blame it on my old age...probably too many D & D games under my belt -- I would love to see you guys make a Dwarven Forge, Dungeon Master Screen! Not some flimsy cardboard or cardstock. I'm talking true Dungeon Master atmosphere! I envision this groundbreaking "screen" (for lack of a better word), to be made of the famous DF Poly stone that you use for your dungeons! Just not quite as heavy, or thick. Maybe a 3-tier folding (w/Dungeon-door hinges???) 1/2" thick, with "sleeves" on the GM side to insert any tables, maps, images, etc. that the GM can customize on his own. The side facing the players of course would be extremely rich with Stefan's Art! A blood-red dragon bursting out from the entire length of the dark stonework??? ...D & D like artifacts throughout each of the 3 panels??? Surprise me (us)! I do know that after 30 years as Gamemaster/DM, I'm tired of buying yet another DM screen. Think about it please! A DF-DM Screen!!! You heard it here first! One you can use over and over -- and customizable to the individuals needs. If you guys can come up with such a thing...stand-by, because every DM in the world is going to want one. You'll have some shipping problems to think about then! *laughs* Put me down for two of these as pre-order please!
4) With a game table covered with DF Caverns/Rivers/Lakes, you can't really throw your dice onto the resin pieces and the dice rolls can kill your table over time, as well. I envision a new "DF Dice Tray" that Stefan makes (and everyone will HAVE TO GET) to be about 10 inches diameter with black felt inside to welcome your dice rolls in style!! The tray shape could be of at least 2 choices: square shaped in polystone resembling a small castle or similar and the 2nd one could be round or octagonal version resembling a dragon's nest or the like...extremely rich with decorative atmosphere, of course!! I think this would be an extremely popular item to purchase for both the collector and the hard-core gamer alike.
5) I would love to see a "ceiling" on my dungeon cavern. A CAVERNOUS DOME that sits on top of the multi-layer walls. One with serious stalagtites to top the whole thing off for that "final battle"! I seriously feel the it would give a better sense of depth for that Dragon and his wing-span. Of course it couldn't be a "whole dome"...probably couldn't see your miniatures very well, but give me a Half-Dome. That would be cool! Taking it a step beyond that, maybe there could be a couple of square holes cut-out in the top of this DF Cavern Dome where "special large stalagtite inserts" could be installed. These stalagtites could be standard variety and then when PCs venture beneath them, the DM pulls the standard ones out and inserts...DarkMantles with tentacles (see D&D MM page 39) or stalagtite with large spiders, giant bats, vampire or anything that generally hangs from giant cave ceilings. The center stalagtite could be removed altogether, leaving a square hole in the roof and the PCs actually enter your cavernous dungeon with a 100ft rope from the ruined temple or monastary layout from up above! Now we're talking! That would be cool to see a long rope dropped down into my sleeping dragon's den!
6) I would also like to see a special river or lake piece made by DF. one with a PILE of treasure half submerged. I envision this square water piece to have rubies and gems seen below water level (like the fish) along with a pile of gold that is spread half below water level and piling up about a half inch above the surface.
7) I would love to see a "River and Lake Traps set"! A few more unique water tiles to spice up that tranquil river setting that we currently have. How about a river tile with a subtle ripple effect and then another tile with some white foam and maybe a third with some white water effect to show rough waters ahead? I'd like to see a river tile with a large "whirlpool" or water vortex effect made within the resin, if it's possible. If not, then possibly an open-water, lake tile with resin banked to one side slightly in a curved fashion. If 4 such Open Lake tiles were connected together in a square, I envision a LARGE Whirlpool effect with the 4 tiles! This would be very cool as a whirlpool trap for those raft riders, an entry point to introduce that giant Water Naga arriving on the scene, or even a "down-the-drain" entrance for the raft riders to plunge into the next Cavernous River/Lake level below! Maybe the river based treasure tile mentioned previously could be added in to make this the River/Lake traps and treasure set.
8) I would love to see Dwarven Forge's interpretation of a "Spider Queen's Cavern" or Lair! Such a layout would fit in nicely with the current cavern sets that we have. I envision the passages to reach such a lair to be a little different from the standard cavern passages and dungeon walls...maybe curved (vertically) in construction. Not curved too much, but enough so that when the passages are put together, it would somewhat resemble a "tunneled" passage layout; still allowing miniatures to be moved around. Artistically speaking, I'm not sure how you could make the webbing effects, but I'm sure Stefan could pull it off. The curved passage pieces should have some sort of webbing effect heavily throughout; possibly webs "petrified" within the ancient, stone tunneled walls themselves! That could look great! I envision the Spider Queen's lair itself to be very intensive with the petrified webbing effects with cocoon-like structures built into the cavern wall pieces and large refuse piles of hardened webbing, rusted weapons and body parts piled up into some of the actual tile floor pieces. Large, round, spiderweb cocoons could also be built into a couple of floor pieces with maybe one floor tile showing a large cocoon that is intact, while another floor piece would show an exploded or "opened" cocoon. There could easily be a SCI-FI tie-in with a set such as this, with an alien-insectoid creature nesting here instead of a D&D Spider Queen. The slightly rounded "tunnel" passage as described could be used for entry into the Spider Queen's lair or...maybe even that SEWER that some others are suggesting DF make!
9) Yes, Dwarven Forge has them all beat with those labyrinths deep-down below, but how about backing up a click, to where most adventures start? How about an "above-ground" set? With Stefan's tested use of the resin(water) in the floor tiles, I'd love to see that water blacken a bit for a DF Swamp Set! Mix in some dark cypress knees, an array of thick, black, dead trees with heavy roots in the water and it could be a haunted bog/hell-swamp that drips with EVIL. Add in a few swamp tiles with "bad things" in the water, fallen tree trunks for natural bridge passage and a couple of "clearing" tiles for that NightHag and/or Were-Rat encampment and you have an above ground setting with some flavor! Cap it off with some cool tiles for an above ground Crypt/Ruins with an unforgettable entrance into the lower depths and we'll tie it all together -- Imagine your minis wading through a twisting, snake-infested swamp setting in search of the outlying, Nosferatu crypt-ruins that until recently, have long been lost through the passage of time... the crypt ruins with the secret entrance that LEADS down into those famous DF Dungeons and Caverns!
10) What WOULD actually lie below numerous tiers of caverns, underground rivers and cavernous lakes...many levels deeper??? Maybe a "Cavernous Dragon Graveyard" and adjoining "Dragon's Lair/Treasure Chamber"!
If such a set were to happen, I envision this mythical place to look...well, very "Mythical". I see the passages of the cavern walls to be of a much darker stone and/or mineral when we start to venture that deep...maybe black, volcanic, obsidian stone with more jagged edges in the wall-work than what we have seen so far. Embedded in these ebon-walls could be large skeletal structures that have been fossilized over time. A huge skull w/attached
spine-work might run down a long stretch of passageway. Wing-shaped skeletal structures might be seen in the walls further down. Prehistoric Lizards or Pteradactyl Flyers you ask? ...ummm, no. -- DRAGONS! I see these passages as described above, culminating into a large "Dragon's Graveyard" where Stefan's artwork could just...run amok! There could be fossilized dragon bones, teeth, horns, claws, wings and tails (dragons have such a cool anatomy!) jutting out of both floor and wall pieces here and there. Maybe in one large cavern wall, there could even be a full-size, Dragon Lich that "appears" to be petrified within the wall! I also envison a new passage that would attach to this graveyard and lead to an adjoining treasure chamber, where the real beast awaits! I envision the walls leading into this trove to have raw ruby crystals jutting out... or maybe "veins" of gold throughout the wall pieces! When the players enter this treasure chamber, they should say the same thing that they said when they saw my cavernous river layout -- "Oh My GOD" were the words as I recall. From either an artistic or gaming viewpoint, the possibilities are endless for what could be in this Dragon's treasure chamber! Just leave us a spot to plant that dragon mini! If such a set will ever be realized, it would definitely be the (!) after the title: Dungeons & Dragons!

More cavern stuff, particularly more 'loose' pieces to put in the caverns e.g. large rock formations, pillars etc.
More buildings to expand medieval building range - more accessories to go in these as well.
A 'finishing off' cavern water set and individual, plain water pieces to go on sale.
Swamp/graveyard/crypt sets for the great outdoors?

I would like to see spell effects made of resin or spiderwebs or just more dungeon dressing in the form of effects like that.

I could see DF casting "effects" for spells that affect the actual architectural and/or structural layout of a dungeon, but Magnificent Egos already makes six "Wall of..." pieces -- Fire, Fog, Ice, Iron, Stone, and Thorns. They're a little pricey, but they look good.

My Top 10 for 2008:

1.) Dwarven Mine
2.) Dwarven Mine
3.) Dwarven Mine
4.) Dwarven Mine
5.) Dwarven Mine
6.) Dwarven Mine
7.) Dwarven Mine
8.) Dwarven Mine
9.) Dwarven Mine
10.) Dwarven Mine

Rough, earth-like walls shored up by timbers (much like the MBS timbers), four-way intersections, L-shaped turns, T-intersections, straight passages, DEAD ENDS with mine collapses, rails on the floors (on a raised bed), MINE CARTS and a HAND PUSH CART! Yeah, that's what I'd really want to buy next.

Is there a way to do a mine with removable timbers? And pieces that don't show obvious "tool marks"?

That would allow us to set it up as a mine, OR as tunnels dug by various monsters (giant ants, ankheg, bulette, dire badgers, et al).
