I'm interested in buying some DF sets for Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest. I was wondering the sets work well with these systems. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Well, I haven't used DF w/Heroquest, but I'm using HQ furniture (until I get resin stuff) quite nicely for D&D gaming.
So, I think it will work fine for HQ - but be prepared for excitement far beyond paper and cardboard!

See ya!

Myself I have not yet played HQ with my DF, but I have played a lot of Warhammer Quest in it (I will send pics sometime...) and I can say it is perfectly compatible with that. Friends of mine are running a HQ-game-group every two weeks (with heavy house rule expansions) and they are using DF for that.

So I guess it is pretty save to say that DF dungeons are just great for HQ.

Death Dealer -- The dungeons and caverns from Dwarven Forge are "perfect" for Advanced HeroQuest!

I've played Ad/HQ for years and my Skaven armies never looked so good until I bought these caverns! The dungeon pieces from DF are especially easy to implement into the rules for AD/HQ's build as you go style. You'll love it!

Have fun!

Hi Death Dealer !

Sorry DF doesn't suit at all for Heroquest & advanced heroquest.
A lot of the figurines (ogres for instance) can't enter into a corridor due to their arms and/or weapons between 2 walls (narrow passage set for instance)
Use 2 ogres or 2 chaos warriors, one on the right, one on the left into a double corridor and plop same problem ! You have to turn on the side the figurines and if several are inside it's a mess !
More : 90% of the sets of the website have a serious floor tiles problem.
Corners and corridor have only one 2,5 floor tiles, other floor tiles are 1,5cm only due to the walls that there on it that take 1cm !
Only the big double passage are larger with walls on exterior sides, not directly on the floor tile.
(cf advanced builder set, room & passage set)
I suggest you to buy MAGE KNIGHT 3D DUNJEONS,less beautiful and larger than DF items but you will be able to put your figurine into a corner room,in front of walls etc without problems.

I must admit DF is very beautiful but it gives me more problems with donjeons I do now and It's very boring that they didn't corrige this before.
Main of the people here using DF do not care about these problems, they make huge dunjeons and do not use all the space in fact when they play.
It's more esthetic for them than playable first....and heroquest gamers are not like this...

Sorry DF doesn't suit at all for Heroquest & advanced heroquest.
Sorry, that's nonsense.

My friends game group is playing Heroquest (with house rules) weekly in DF parts.

We have been playing multiplayer Dungeon Bowl (6-8 players) with lots of miniatures (including trolls, ogres, rat ogres) in huge DF setups. Nobody ever had serious problems with playability.

We are playing Warhammer Quest in DF very often, I admit there we double the space, so 1 game space equals 2x2 DF spaces. Needs a lot of DF, but it is looking fantastic. (Some day I will find the time to post pictures).

I guess it comes down to what you prefer, good looks with some compromise in playability or top playability and compromises in eye candy (which states the question, why you are playing miniature games in the first place, cardboard chits are very playable...).

Does Wizkids still even make that product? It first came out in July of 2003, over 3 years ago i don't think it is still in production.

I would agree that the Mage Knight 3D Dungeons are slightly more playable as far as usable floorspace is concerned, mostly since the walls are a lot thinner. I have a couple of sets and mostly use them for skirmish games that use a grid, e.g. Star Wars Minis and D&D Minis. For these types of games I’m willing to sacrifice aesthetics for ease of play.

However, I wouldn’t say Dwarven Forge is totally unsuitable for games such as Heroquest, just not quite as easy for game play as far as the grid and usable floorspace is concerned.

Also, for aesthetics and durability, Dwarven Forge has no equal!

GS - I think you’re right, Wizkids don’t make their 3D Dungeons anymore. I have a feeling they didn’t sell as well as they’d hoped. The sets I picked up about a year ago were gathering dust at my FLGS (I think they sat there for about two or three years before I finally decided to get them.) To boost sales, maybe Wizkids should have packaged their dungeons in random booster packs!

Mage Knight 3D Dunjeons is over.
The boxes with 36 floor tiles,24 walls, and 4 iron & 4 wooden doors are now collectible at a high price.
You can paint it and you'll have 1 case of 5cm².The system is nice but if you discover the board when you move your figurines,it will be a problem for the game master when he has to connect rooms & passages together...

With DF sure the sets are terribly beautiful but many parts are unsuitable with HeroQuest figurines (& other games too such as warhammer quest)
For instance, try to put these ones correctly into a narrow passage set part :
*fimirs
*gargoyles
*chaos warriors
*sorceer
*ogres
*or the minotaures of warhammer quest....
*or the orcs with bows of whq
*etc etc

Please take a photo I wanna see it (ah ah ^^)

The double corridor are nice but if you wanna move a gargoyle in it you cannot place it correctly and if you use 4 cases instead of one ask DF to make larger cases.

Anyway the problem will always be there due to the walls....there wouldn't have a such problem if DF was only floor tiles without walls.
The fact to make it in 3D is great but the walls are on the floor tiles,so the rooms & passages floor sections aren't entire. It's the price to pay 3D.

May be it should be a great idea to make only floor tiles and walls seperately as other companies do.
I've already made my own floor tiles (a lot of different floor tiles of all sizes) in synthesis resine and create walls with stuffs I've found on internet.
Now I can place a room with walls of different size where I want to give the 3D effect.
Ok it's more work, you have to paint it too but it solves the problem.

I sold all my DF sets last year even if it was hard to do...

Why would you need narrow passages there at all?

Have a look into the cool photos section:

www.dwarvenforge.com/dwarvenforums/viewtopic.php?pid=24070#p24070

As I already said, you just have to double up the space and everything works like a dream. You don't need any narrow passages then. Besides, the basic sets of WHQ don't have any floor tiles that would need narrow passages even if you do not double the space.

As already mentioned, we play WHQ rather often in DF terrain, so if you sold your DF stuff because you believe you can't do that, it surely is not DF's fault.

This discussion is strange anyway. Either you are playing WHQ because you love some eye-candy and atmosphere, then DF is just a perfect addition for this game. Or you prefer "playability" over eye-candy. Then why not simply use the original boards of WHQ? Or in the end, why are you playing WHQ at all?

bye

Wolfgang;

Disregard HQFrance; he doesn't LIKE DF, and refused a long time ago to adapt.
No big deal, his loss is someone else's gain - after all, he DID sell all his DF stuff!
If HQF wants to continue playing with paper and flat floors and no 3D, that's his business; I just wish he wouldn't knock DF on DF'S OWN WEB FORUM; it strikes me as being somewhat gauche!
Beyond that, I think you and others have proven him wrong; I wouldn't bother with him any further.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being gauche in french is to ignore the original topic : is it compatible to heroquest and to say blablabla when u wrote yourself "Well, I haven't used DF w/Heroquest" (By the way I hope you tried now lol)
And being gauche is to say too that I don't like DF because I didn't write it at all.

Is it hate or what ? Because I think you misunderstood my purposes : I based my first answer & second on his question.A monster take one case of 2,5cm² and there are problems with walls.I gave examples and didn't estimate it was useful to add photos to be more clear as possible I wrote.Final point.
Some said I was a kind excessive in my answer "DF doesn't suit at all" but this is my point of view I defended based on classical rules of the game using the original figurines. Some added their own rules or suggested to "double" the space counting several squares to make one case.

The Df or other companies floor tiles suit well, the problem with DF are the walls attached to each section.I never said I want "to continue playing with paper and flat floors and no 3D",just keep your reflexion for yourself, that's not the subject right here to fight each other for a such reason,in french and to be polite we say your last note to this topic is "déplaçée".

You know the price of DF and if this guy is disappointed or cannot play as he wanted he will be angry against who ? That's what we call a good commercial here.Newcomers in our forums ask us many questions due to a game they play in their club or association and we use to answer more precisely as possible.
Buying Df can be the result of months & months of money saved and it's a big decision to start collecting it.
So hate me if you want but I cannot lie on the "BIG WALL PROBLEM" (lol follow my sight)

I try to understand your reaction : what did you read exactly ?

Promotion for old mage knight 3d dunjeons stuffs completely out of stock for years 'cause the company is dead ?
I don't understand why you are so agressive ("I just wish he wouldn't knock DF on DF'S OWN WEB FORUM")

Anyway you can sleep well,I'm not famous,I do not appear on tv shows about floor sections, radio interviews for demonstrations of "THE WALL PROBLEM".I'm not too a spammer or a new company of floor tiles trying to destroy the DF products directly in his forum.... (o my god o my god a space invader!)

About your "he doesn't LIKE DF, and refused a long time ago to adapt" you are zero on divination so a good advice : do not play to national lottery...
First 'cause I've discovered DF last year at the same month and I did everything to get my own sets.
It took me time for 2 reasons :
1 to save the money and buy it.
2 to find someone who distributes it in Europe.

I must thank you for your first answer in my first topic in this webplace but even if it was a little bit negative (wait & see to resume) I discovered Tom from France & his website full of infos and especially Richard who read my topic here and helped me to get my first sets in october 2006 (what a looooooooonnng time to test it and adapt it : all this winter and spring on it !) ask OTHERWORLD to get my invoice details.Only someone passionated wastes 1500€ in Df isn't it ?

So you can be sure I like DF but even if I am a fan I just said I found it not compatible for the original game HQ & figurines on MY WAY of playing.(read again my first post "It's more esthetic for them than playable first....and heroquest gamers are not like this...")

O you'll be sorry to learn in the french forum we also criticize prices, sets etc things we cannot do here as many of them told me,I see now why.But it's our passion and we share our impressions and experiences with different games using DF whatever if it are good or bad points, each one exprims his point of view and tries to light it with arguments and it never drives us in such comments you wrote about me,someone completely stranger of your life you've never meet and never talked.

Death Dealer isn't blind,he saw it was modular, beautiful and expensive too.
So let's try to give him examples of the good and bad things in function of his way of playing.
Some questioned him about it ?
Many people from Heroquest board don't know DF and some believe they can reproduce the mainboard with it,something impossible if you don't want to change size and details of each quest.

I highlighted the fact HeroQuest has a particularity AHQ & WHQ haven't : single passage
-> narrow passage set is the only set that purposes such floor tiles but the walls are a real problem with basic figurines or the ones of the expansions.May be should I start like this my first answer to be more clear ?
[Anyway this problem was already explained on terrainosaur if I remember well with cm² infos & details.]

Now jkratzer I suggest you to click on this link, this is a spanish forum where I am registered too :
