Well!

I have done some photo shooting this evening and prepared some first images with GIMP.
A first glance about how it looks in the Tile System can be found in the Cool Photos Thread (www.dwarvenforge.com/dwarvenforums/viewtopic.php?id=1124).

I rescaled the cutted photos to 200dpi before further processing them, which means mainly adding transparency.

The final images used with the tile software are scaled down to 100dpi for smaler file sizes. That size still seems to be sufficient for this purpose to me.

Those look great, LoneStarr (referring to the other thread).
Thank you so much for putting forth such effort.
I haven't made the time to play with any of this stuff yet and my camerawork isn't nearly as good as your own, so I am very grateful that you are putting in some time on this.

Thanks and I hope you'll share the finished products (pics, tilesets, etc.).

62 sets and counting. In addition, a boatload of individual pieces or sets of pieces.

Of course I will share the picture files and appropriate examples for set.xml files with the DF community.

As soon as I have all pictures with reasonable quality of the Fantasy line available I'll try to find a way for making the stuff available. Maybe I can put it on the WebServer of my neighbour and fellow gamer, which is dedicated to one of our groups own RPG system/world, it will presumably be used in this group anyway, because we use the DF stuff there for layouts during combat taking place in dungeons.

And the pictures will get better than what I showed with yesterdays quickshots! :D
I allready rearranged the setup in order to move the camera further away from the tiles (reducing the perspective bias a lot) and allow for better lighting with artificial lights (when the white balance is adjusted appropriately artificial lighting seems to be ok and more predictable than using direct sunlingth mostly) to reduce hard shadows.

I'll keep you updated on how the project progresses.

Hey, given the fact that the Map Maker was canceled, and now there's been found this software, that with the work and efforts of the "dwarven forge community" (I mean: Lonestarr!!! ;-D) there's going to be at last a very good tool to design maps, perhaps DF could Host the program, and the .set and Images to have it in a public link for everyone that adds to the comunity. I think it could be a great call for the people that comes here for the first time. Once you see what you could achieve with DF, you cannot help but buy some!!! ^___^

And by the way, perhaps providing the pics for every release could be DF task... hey, only an idea, if you can. In fact, they have already people that designs the boxes' logo, etc. They could provide the pieces pics for the Tilesystem as well.

I think I can't be too wrong if I say that most of all like this Tool, am I wrong?

Well, only a couple of ideas... we'll see...

Lonestarr, arsthein;

I started doing PCs back in 1982 (my first PC was a Heathkit H-89!), and went professional in '92. Now I primarily do database development for a state government agency personnel department. I also fill-in as a cameraman for the training unit when they videotape a conference or training session. And I'm teaching myself Non-Linear Editing on the PC, using Sony Vegas. But that's okay, I taught myself Microsoft Access for databases.

Ain't it fun?

See ya!

Keep in mind if you distribute or post the original tilesets:

www.colinburns.com/games/mastermaze/eula.txt

We've put a lot of work into making and testing the originals (4 major cons worth of maps with over 1100 pieces per setup)

pfworks -

My apologies! I didn't realize WHO was the original genius that created this beauty!
Me 'at's off to the crew with you! And yes, I agree 100% (at least!); if redistributing someone else's programming, they MUST either be credited or compensated, whichever is listed in the EULA.
Or both.
Or ELSE!
But I hope SOMEONE distributes the whole thing, soon! if they already do, pray tell, who?

See ya!

The tiles were originally made to support dundjinni and illustrator. I have all the original .ai files that I do not distribute at this point. I'd try out the other software, but, alas, it won't run on my powerbook.

The canonical distribution point for the .png tiles is:

www.colinburns.com/games/mastermaze/

and the proving grounds production website (not much, but...)

www.colinburns.com/games/

At some point, I'll repost the dundjinni generated maps and the photos. I'll post the new photos we get from Kublacon 2006. This could take until July, I'm real busy up to Kublacon, and then have something else that will take up June.

And no problems, most of this was really done to help us. It's hard to manually lay out a 1000+ piece setup.

The one thing that it seems that the tilemaker program has that dundjinni does not is the concept of inventory. It would be real nice to have the program tell you you are out. Currently, we post-process the dundjinni files with a perl script to count up the pieces.

Cool. If I get time I may make CD's of the tilesets and hand them out during Kublacon. We'll see if I can get my adventures done first!

And, Stefan... Our idea that we are doing at Kublacon is inspired a bit by TruDungeon!
