Someone would have to make tilesets for the assorted DF pieces, but for those that wanted map maker software, here it is....

And for tiles:

www.colinburns.com/games/mastermaze

These are .png, so they should work. I personally use dundjinni, because I don't have to use Windoze that way.

enjoy

Hi guys. Great idea! I've taken this program "TileSystem" and downloaded the .png you've provided for Dwarven Forge pieces. I've created an .set archive (is in xml format) to use the Dwarven Forge pieces, so you can create maps in this program with the Dwarven Forge .png provided for dundjinni!!!

I would like to post my .zip file with the images folder and the .set file so if you put these in the TileSystem.exe folder, you can use them. I've put all Master Maze and Den of Evil pieces in the same Tile Set (I prefer this way) and with infinite number of every piece. But you can make your personal version of this file, if someone with no skills in xml needs advice, please, let me know. It's really easier than it seems. I've used notepad.

Anyway, I can't post the archive, but if someone want so send me a PM, I'll send the file by email gladly. It's less than 1 Mb, images of Master Maze and Den of Evil included.

Greetings!

PM sent.

Thanks so much for this! I have been using pen and paper to plan out our undersharn campaign (from "Sharn: City of Towers"). This tiling program makes making maps much easier (and more fun to boot!).

I tried the tileset pfworks posted but can't seem to get it to work.

It's sent pal, hope you enjoy it! :-)

Please tell me how does it do. As I've said in my email to PATB, the pieces doesn't fit very well actually, but even so it's a pretty useful way of designing maps. I have to research a little more to see how can I do (if it is possible) to make the pieces fit together.

I have to say that is possible to configure the .set file to make the program show you when you have no more pieces of one type available, just like it does with the doom pieces. You can also classify the different pieces in different sections of the menu, to not have a so long list of pieces, also by configuring the .set file. I prefer the long list, but if you want to know how please let me know. It's not difficult at all.

Tell me how it goes please! :-)

Hi everyone,

I also played around a little with the program and the pngs yesterday evening. I used the small pngs for the fantasy and DoE (since I don't have any sci-fi for now and just waiting for the DoE package to be delivered) and just tried out several Tile entries in a new MM-Set file using the doom tileset file provided on the programms page as a starting point. It's pretty easy to edit the set file if you found out how it works.

Here some infos that might be interesting to you as I see from your posts:

The <TileSet> tag contains an attribute 'gridsize' which was initially 64 for the 'doom' set. Since the small pngs for MM are 200x200 for standard 2"x2" tiles, changing that value to 100 gives you an appropriate grid and the tiles will fit perfectly. The large pngs seem to be 400x400 based, so 200 might be a good value for the grid then.

The 'maxcount' attribute of a <Tile> entry is useful if you want the program to limit the tiles you can use. Set it to the number you own of a specific tile and the 'warn' attribute determines what happens if you try to use more tiles than you have. 'true' will just display a red cross over the tile when you took the last one and it will change to a red circle if you are using more tiles than you have. 'false' will prevent you from using more tiles than you own.

The 'type' attribute determines to which group the tile should belong. The active tile set group can be selected in the left lower corner of the program.

Seems that these little nice programm together with the pngs could be a very helpfull tool for DF MM layout design.

Hi!
I've almost finished tweaking my set xml file now. During that I discovered alignment problems with some of the cavern and DoE pngs. It seems that in contrast to e.g. the fantasy standard passage pgns, some of these do not contain some transparent space around them which would make them able to fit to the grid.
Especially interesting is that the cavern dead end passage png (dzc-cave_dead_end.png) has three fields in the raster, while the original tile has two and thus does not fit at all.
The other pngs where I noticed more or less aberration with the grid alignment are:
ezc-curved_corner_passage.png (it might fit if the grid width is set to only 50 instead of 100)
gz-cavern_4-way_passage.png (slight but noticeable out of grid)
doe-passage.png (and also the doe-passage-h.png what so ever that second one might be goog for)
ee-right_angle_passage.png

I think further reducing the grid size might allow to get those pngs to fit well, but it might be a better idea to try to adjust the pictures with GIMP, Photoshop or a similar graphic program. So the grid size can be left to the 100 (200 for the large images) setting for easy dungeon assembly.

Be careful with re-sizing. The cavern pieces were a pain to make, and are not actually a "standard" size. When I first made these, they did fit in a standard size. It made creating the maps easy, but when I actually set them up, we were actually a whole piece off. The cavern pieces aren't perfect, but I believe they are more or less the correct size now.

I also noticed that the cavern images might seem to be a little to large (especially the 4-way passage), but as pfworks mentioned this might be due to the real pieces simply being that size! So like with the 'misaligned' DoE Tiles I only added some transparent room around the original images now, which makes them able to fit with the grid in the software. The only tile i did a little shrink with in order to make it fit to the grid was the 4-way cavern passage mentioned above. I'll have to check out how it works with real setups. If it turns out that the difference between real and map tile is to big I'll change it back to the original.

Oh, I believe also if you check, the passage pieces in general, unlike the wall and corner pieces, also do not fit into a grid in real life. The standard pieces cut off the interior space with the walls. If you look at a normal wall piece, you get two full 1" squares, and 2 1" squares that are partially filled by wall.

With the passages, the walls are outside of the grid squares. You get the full 1" on each square.
